Hooniverse Weekend Edition: One Lap of America with Mr. Angry…

You guys may remember that there was a battle for the Editor in Chief position for Ride Lust a few months ago in which I competed with what turned out to be my LeMons partner, Mike Musto. Yes, he was hired over there, and I wished him the best of luck when we met up at the New York International Auto Show. It was at that time he told me that he was going to compete in the Tire Rack One Lap of America event, with his 1968 Dodge Charger. This event was being held this week, and I have been following along on Ride Lust, so come along for the ride yourself.

First a little background on why Mike is running, and the team he set up.

The Charger is ready (for the most part) to take on another 4000 mile run and do battle with some of the meanest and fastest cars in the country. We’ll not only be hitting 9 different race tracks, but we’ll be driving some 15-18 hrs. per day. This is one hell of a haul and because of this we’re not going to waste the opportunity. We’ve teamed up with the VA Palo Alto Health Care System to help our wounded Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. My co-driver for this event will be international automotive importer Chris Smith. Also accompanying us and the team that spearheaded our Road Back Home Project, is Todd Ford, a West Coast Venture Capitalist and Dr. Peter Cassini, a Neurologist in Stanford, CA. They will be piloting a Ferrari F430. Both cars have been completely vinyl wrapped to reflect the spirit of what we are trying to accomplish and to help us raise awareness for our Veterans.

The two car team has had its ups and downs during the event, and here are the current standings from the One Lap of America Web Site. Read Mikes journey, along with the rest of the team, day by day, by following this link. All Images are courtesy of Ride Lust.

I just read every single one of the posts and am jealous as hell. Man, what an adventure, and I love the fact that that old Charger just soldiers on. Tells you how good the 440 big block really is.
