This will be the last post for the Hooniverse Wagon Sunday, and I thought I would go out with a bang… With this Chrysler Valiant Suburban Wagon. Now, 1960 was the debut year for the Valiant, and it wasn’t badged as a Plymouth… No, this was set up to be sold at all Chrysler dealers, once they signed on as a Valiant retailer. It was only the next year that they were identified as a Plymouth, only after the Dodge Boys received the identical Lancer variant. So, this is an original Valiant, with the famous Slant-Six, and a floor-shifted Manual. According to the listing:
1960 Valiant Suburban Station wagon. This car has been stored for 20 years and still runs. It has a 6 cylinder engine with manual transmission with floor shifter. This is the first year of the Valiant and is a low production car. This is a great restoration car or just fix it up and drive it like this. The car runs, but the brakes need work, so you cannot drive it. I am in the process of replacing the brakes. I have replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor in the last week. I also drained the gas tank. Please call me if you would like see it. This car is actually a Chrysler Valiant not a Plymouth. In 1960, Chrysler came out with the Valiant and switched it over to Plymouth in 1961. I am looking to trade for a drivable car or truck.
The odd thing about this advertisement is what’s missing. There is no mileage statement what-so-ever, nor is there an asking price. It looks all there, and if you have a sledge hammer for tools, the slant-six will run. Remember, this was the first car to have an alternator (rather than a generator) as standard equipment, and Valiants have a history of being overbuilt. So, what would you pay for this classic wagon ready to be reborn? See the Phoenix Craigslist Listing here.
