Hooniverse Truck Thursday – A 1960 Datsun PLG-221 Pickup Truck

By Jim Brennan Apr 21, 2011

Welcome to another edition of Hooniverse Truck Thursday. We are so grateful for our readership because they contribute so much to our content from time to time, like this tip we received from Chris (Thanks Man!). This Craigslist listing features one of the oldest Datsun Pickups ever imported into the states. Does it peg your Want-O-Meter?

This truck looks relatively complete, but the seller doesn’t make it clear whether it runs or it doesn’t. According to the listing:

I have a 1960 Datsun PLG-221 Pickup Truck. One of less than 50ish imported way back when. It ran when my hauler brought it home from Maine, where it spent all but the last 11 years on an island off the coast.

Asking price for this relatively rare piece of Japanese craftsmanship is $3,500. See the Craigslist listing here. Bonus points for the Rambler Hub Caps…

  1. gotta have.. gotta have.. gotta have.. wait where is it?? lots of rust.. ummmmm maybe not..

  2. An early Japanese truck that's been in the Northeast – Maine, no less – for its entire life, appears unrestored, and still has a bed and (mostly) cab corners? Nice at any cost.

  3. Early uncommon datsun truck virtually unmollested from North eastern US. Even with the rust it is well worth it

    1. …..and I should have written – though I did not hear it run personally, the guy who hauled it from Maine cleaned the carb, connected a broken wire, ran a hose to a coffee can of gas, and fired it up. He actually drove it without brakes a hundred yards or so. Said it sounded as if it really only had the 30,000 miles the odometer reads.
