Welcome to another Fastback Friday, and this particular car was an accidental discovery. I usually look for cars that are a bit on the oddball side of the equation, like Other Makes, or Imperials, or Corvairs for that matter. However, I decided to look at mid 60s Fords for a possible weekend theme, when I saw this listing, and decided to share it with all of you on the most appropriate day possible… Fastback Friday!
This is a well preserved Galaxie 500 that shows only 45,000 miles on the odometer, and has a mix of options and standard equipment that is highly unusual. For example, this car has the optional 289 Challenger V-8 that produced 200HP in this application, and it is backed by a 3-Speed Manual with the shifting duties controlled on the steering column. The interior is all red vinyl, with a big bold bench seat upfront. However, some extra cost options did make their way onto this brassy vehicle including Power Windows, Power Seats, Remote Controlled Mirrors, Remote Trunk Release, and an AM FM Radio.
On the outside, this very big, and very red fastback sports the optional “Mag” style wheelcovers, along with all the brushed aluminum trim that makes this car a real standout. With less than a day to go, the current bid for this Galactic Cruiser is $12,100, with an unmet reserve. The Buy-It-Now price is $16,500, which is still less costly than a comparable Mustang Fastback or a Thunderbird of the same model year. Take a look at the listing, and see if this Fastback is the one that may be calling your name.
