Hooniverse Asks: What’s an automotive “thing” you want to attend in the near future?

It doesn’t have to be a race. I’m not talking about a car show. It can be anything automotive… “thing” that you hope to attend in the near future. I’ve got one booked out a few months from now that involves driving fun things off-road, camping, eating good food, and maybe a beer or two when the driving is done. You’ll hear more about that one soon but for now, I want to hear about something car-related that you’re excited to hopefully attend in the near future.

Sound off below!

(Also, the pic is unrelated to the thing I mentioned I’m attending above… I just went back and found a fun one I snapped a while back.)

Until the pandemic is under control, I’m not particularly enthusiastic about attending anything that involves mass gatherings. I enjoy doing social things with people that I know exercise good judgement, but from what I’ve seen, a sizable percentage of the general public does not. I’m therefore keeping my automotive activities in a pretty tight circle for the time being, which unfortunately means my opportunities are fairly slim.
I wish like hell I had a big garage with a project car sitting on stands surrounded by tools and parts right now. It’s a fantastic time to be working on a build.

Yeah, I’m hoping things will be normal enough I can attend a couple local car shows that typically run in the fall, but we’re not doing much of anything that can’t be done outside, and well away from other people. Given how things are tracking (which, as per my scientist wife, they seem to be), I’m assuming things will be okay enough within six months, but I’m not making concrete plans yet.

I’m inherently an optimist, but data drives my decision-making. I too am hopeful that things will be better in six months.

Well…. I am going with a friend to the Amelia Island Concours in early March; we did it a few years ago, pre-plague, and it was amazing.

We are doing the same route as last time; flying into Florida on a use-up-some-worthless-airline-miles flight, and using up some more to rent a Mustang convertible. We will then cruise up the coast to the show.

It should be a good time if we don’t die.

I would love to get to an Indycar race in the not too distant future, but its a long to travel from Australia

I’d like to get to a few of the car shows that are running again, also racing although I doubt I’ll get to the Bathurst 6 or 12 Hour races though this year. Those aims aren’t compatible with everything else in my life though!

One thing is a big national club event later in the year, it’s biennial so the last one didn’t happen.
