One of my high school buddies is looking for a first car for his son. For some reason he’s looking at base model third-generation Acura Integras. Now, I know these cars pretty well. From 1996 until 2000 I owned a ’94 Integra GS-R, a car that was basically my identity at the time. Then, in a moment of nostalgia, I bought a ’95 Integra GS-R in 2014 that I kept until 2020.
In my years of passionately owning and learning everything about these cars, I didn’t think anything could surprise me. But today, my friend sent me a link to Facebook Marketplace add for a ‘1996 Integra with an accessory that I’ve never seen before – an in-dash cell phone.
Now, in 1996 mobile phones were still in their infancy. They were pricey, large, and frankly, not that good. But apparently, a baller from that time added an OEM accessory in-dash phone to their otherwise base three-door Integra. For more detail on this phone, checkout this one I found on eBay.
This is one of the most obscure OEM accessories I’ve ever seen. It was U.S. market specific, dealer installed, probably very pricey, and certainly, even at the time, with an obvious obsolesce.
So, today, Hooniverse Asks; What is oddest/weirdest/rarest OEM accessory that you’ve ever seen?
Probably not the oddest, but the third-row chess/checkerboard table for Ford station wagons is rare enough that I had trouble looking for pictures to link to.
