I hadn’t been to the OC Auto Show in years. This isn’t the realm of major reveals, future product discussions, or other pertinent interests that require me shuttling off towards the land of Disney. This year, however, I was a bit curious because Chevy decided to use the OC Auto Show as the public debut space for its 2019 Blazer.
This is a revival of a fairly iconic machine for the bow-tie brand. Now thought, it’s (probably smartly) relegated to CUV status. Still, there’s an available 305-horsepower V6 engine and a not-to-shabbily styled RS trim on offer.
The better looking versions will break cover at the more important LA Auto Show this November. Though if Chevy really wanted to make news, it could’ve prepped a few SEMA specials for the end of October. That’s not likely to happen (Because no automaker has offered up their SEMA budget to Hooniverse yet), and that’s a shame. Sure, some terribleness would’ve occurred but there’s the potential for a bit of restyling magic as well.
As it sits, it’s fine on paper for the average CUV shopper. But does it do anything to tickle your interests?

It’s just one more size in their already bloated portfolio of crossovers. It’s a shame that they decided to call it a Blazer.

I am curious. Yeah, it’s a crossover with a name far too great for what it is. But it has the well-liked EcoTec 2.5L and 3.6L LFX V6 motors. And it could be a quiet cruiser at about the same size as a Grand Cherokee or Hyundai Santa Fe. No off-road capability. Just a big Camaro-inspired family crossover. I will check it out at the L.A. show.

I’ve seen a few around here. I have to admit as far as crossovers go, it’s a good looking one. But yeah, drop in the bucket as far as an already saturated market.

The Ford Edge already exists, and I barely care about the Edge. I’m not sure what the Blazer will do better than the Edge.
Now, given that they have a bit of a Camaro thing going on with the interior, if they’d gone for an Alpha-platform based crossover, I might almost care, but I also don’t think that there’s a big market for a Chevy-badged sporty crossover unless it has a monstrous V8.-

I could get on board with an Alpha-based crossover. I probably wouldn’t call an Alpha-based crossover a crossover, but that’s just my longitudinal engine bias. It’s the same reason I consider the Grand Cherokee and Durango “proper” SUVs, despite having unibodies.

I actually just sketched out an alpha based SUV with a V8. I think it would be smart of them to offer it as a midsize, 5 seater crossover. They could do a base turbo 4, a midrange NA v6 and then a tt v6 for vsport trim, and then an LS for V trim. A true X5 competitor.

Bored to tears with SUVs and crossovers, and I see nothing that makes this one a standout. I’m crossing my fingers that the Bronco will be interesting.

I’m curious as to why they would take the name of a capable and well-liked utility like the Blazer and apply it to just another lame crossover. It’s gonna need a ton of cameras on it to compensate for the lack of outward visibility to the rear and rear quarters.
And can’t they design an instrument panel that doesn’t look like yet another Camaro?
The whole thing is stupefyingly dull. Zzzzzzzzzzz…-
I mean, you think about how most S10 Blazers were used once they gained rear doors, and it’s not far off lame crossover (maybe a few more went into boat towing duty).

Blazer seems the wrong name, Chevrolet Cardigan seems appropriate.

No questions; I think it’s stunning and brave for GM to launch the 2045 Camaro so early, without the level 5 autonomy and biomethane-PHEV powertrain.

Meh, it’s rather bloated looking and I already drive one of the best 2 row crossovers on the market.

Instead of bemoaning that crossovers exist, I’ll notice that the Equinox has the worst interior doorhandles on a modern car and this appears to fix them, automatically making it the better of the two Chevrolet crossover models.
