The Moreeb Dune in the United Arab Emirates has an incline of 50 degrees. It rises nearly 1,000 feet of the desert floor and runs almost a mile in width. It is the tallest dune in the UAE. That’s why it’s a hot spot of hill climb racing, where insane old SUVs are given a new life that consists of torturous moments of fury coupled with unholy amounts of horsepower. Hill Climb Drag Racing is amazing.
In the open category that kicks off the video above, the drivers can run any engine and gearbox combination in their vehicle that they want. This basically means heavily boosted V8s cranking out over 3,000 horsepower. In old Nissan Patrols. This shit is wild.
The trucks will run up the cliff face in 6.5 to 5.5 seconds. Or they’ll explode trying.
Other classes are model or engine-specific, like the one for Toyota Hilux pickups that allow for massive paddle tires out back. These things will wheelie their way up the hill in an amazing manner, or snap driveshafts right at the line. The forces at place here are incredible.
