Welcome to the Hooniverse Classic Captions Post, and it’s that time of the week in which this feature appears, so let’s review the premise; I search for images that were used by the car or truck companies in their print advertising or brochures, and it is your job to provide a humorous caption that is some how tied in with the image. So what’s with the Plymouth running with a bunch of Thoroughbreds? We will get to that in a moment… Last time, we had an image of a Young Couple looking into a house, and the captions were fun for the most part… The runner up caption was by Devin, and it was very funny in my opinion “It took Jim and Cathy a surprisingly long time to realize that the blinds were closed.” Short and to the point, and oh so close to winning, but there was one just slightly better. And the winning comment was from Tanshanomi, and it was the very first one: “See? I told you it was my parents’ Skylark. But what are they doing way out h—…wait, THAT’S NOT MOM!” Yes, finding out your parents were in fact human is the stuff of comedy, so congratulations on winning the classic caption contest this time. It’s now time to take a look at this weeks entry, this particular print as for Plymouth is very interesting. This was for the 1959 Plymouth Fury, and it seems to be taking place at a racetrack for Thoroughbreds. The ad copy is rather interesting, and goes like this: “Full of Fury, and Eager to Run! And they’re off! The sleek, sure-footed Plymouth Sport Fury steps ahead and stays ahead.” Other tag lines include “…all the “horses” you could want for modern driving.” and “You’ll learn why the smart money’s riding on Plymouth for ’59.” Well, when they think up a theme for an advertisement, they certainly stick with it. Is this really a way of selling a car during this time period? (You can click here to see the full size image) You have the next five days to come up with a great caption. The editors will deliberate on the merits of each entry, and after contemplating our own caption (I wonder if the horses were spooked during this photo shoot…), we will pronounce a winner.
