Build, Race, Crash, Fix, Repeat: The Battle-Torn V8 Supercars [Photos]

By Phillip Thomas May 22, 2013

I’ll admit it, I have a strange affinity for beat up race cars. Battle dents scars tell stories; some of great triumph and success in adverse situations. Other times, fierce disappointment or travesty as things come to an end. I’ll tease y’all with some beat up, taped up V8 Supercars.

  1. Was the super car race well recieved in Texas. I wish I could have afforded to get to Texas and the race. It is very high on my must see tracks as are the V-8 supercars. Do you think they will be back??

    1. vwminispeedster sez there was a large showing of GTOs and G8s and there was even a contemporary ute with a Pontiac face! All in the parking lot of the race.

      1. Wounder what the aussie's thought of the gto? I figured there would be a huge turnout of those, heck If I had one and lived anywhere within 3500 miles Id have been there.

      2. Wounder if the ute was silver? IIRC a silver ute with a gto snoutshowed up on one of the first crapshoots, or just as a hooniverse feature.

        1. It was red. I need to get my photos off my camera and post them. I had an epic time! They better damn well come back next year!

    2. Hit-and-miss on the racing action, but over all well-liked. Wait for tomorrow for the full story. 🙂

  2. What's the giant air hose attached to the grill of the car in the second picture? Heating? Cooling? Is the car on life support?

    1. Cooling. The engine is probably running but no air is moving through it so they force air through to keep it cool.

    2. After racing cooling. The lower bumper feeds both intake, radiator, and brake duct-work; this allows everything to air-cool after a race while the car is off.

      1. Interesting, I guess after hours of racing the driver doesn't feel like trundling round and round letting things cool off

  3. I like how when the cars are in the air, they still have crazy negative camber.
I read the Nissan guys took a tour of the Smyrna plant and I learned the V8 used as the basis for the race engine is the Titan V8 built in Tennessee.
    Why can't this be NASCAR?????+infinity????

  4. i'm tickled by the nissan altima sponsored by …. volvo trucks
i know, i know, no volvos in this race, trucks and cars not the same company, &c &c &c
