Bring your guessing game skills to this car auction time waster

By Jeff Glucker Oct 7, 2020

How good do you think you are at sussing out the value of vehicles at auction? If you want to put your knowledge of older metal and dollars to the test, there’s a simple website available to you. Check out Bring A Guesser.

It collects auction sales info, allows you to make a guess on the final sale, and then lets you see how wrong you really are.

This is the perfect sort of website where you’ll say “Oh I’ll make a few guesses” and then look up and realize an hour has passed.

Some you will nail and others will leave you scratching your head. The site presents the guesses in groups of three. Then it totals it all up to see how you’ve done and also provides links to the listings so you can learn more about why you may have been wrong. Or maybe why the buyer was wrong...

Go check it out. Simple yet fun.

  1. Cool site/game – couple of observations, I wish they gave a little more description (they usually don’t tell you what engine, mileage, etc.) and I haven’t even somewhat of a clue on what the value is of these “furrin” cars. Maybe too much of my time is spent on BaT instead of more realistic auction houses.

    1. Agreed. One of the cars that came up for me had 200,000 miles on it, and since there was only one picture, no real way to tell what was worn out.

Another one that popped up was a project car. It will be pretty valuable when finished, but the game provided no insight into what will be needed to take it to that point.

I did guess one within $250.

  2. “How good do you think you are at sussing out the value of vehicles at auction?”

Considering the vehicles I’ve won at auction, I think I’m terrible at sussing out their value.

    1. I’m okay with the stuff I’ve found via BaT (arguably another sign that I don’t know what I’m doing), but that was before it became an auction site.

    2. Honestly, has anyone ever claimed that BaT is a bargain site? I asked the founder about the balance between cheap finds and high end cars at insane prices at a Reddit AMA a year or two ago. He claimed that BaT showed more cheap cars now than ever, but that is certainly not my impression. The auction model is not beneficial in that regard either. Still, there have been a few very good deals there, occasionally.
