I miss the days when Super Bowl ads were first shown during the actual game. Still, there’s no denying that these spots command top dollar for a reason. The amount of eyeballs on your brand or product is in the many millions. That’s why these spots cost many millions. A number of automakers have produced some great ads over the years, and the new crop of spots are just starting to trickle out on the Internet.
Audi has already nailed it for me with its new R8 commercial titled “Commander”. The car itself looks wonderful, but Audi is appealing to my love of all things space. If this ad doesn’t leaving you smiling at the end, you might be on the wrong site…
Audi Shoots For The Moon With New R8 Super Bowl Spot

Im almost there myself, so no Flaming, please. The idea of an Octogenarian behind the wheel of an R-8
on the road is kinda scary……-
Sir Stirling and his Twizzy disagree!

This ad makes me incredibly sad. It keys into the nostalgia/American national pride associated with the Apollo program, but more pointedly the perception of decline since then.
Things won’t be that way ever again, it’s a bygone era…unless you buy this thing!
I’m a little embarrassed to admit having this perspective, but a German company doesn’t get to play that card. Swap the R8 for a new GT and I’d be crying red white and blue tears. Dunno… -
they’re saying that an audi R8 will probably go 600,000 miles, but only if it doesn’t kill you within five minutes of starting the engine

As an ad, I say well done.
It has been my position that if I get to the point that my faculties are failing I would take advantage of a particularly lucid moment to hoist my rickety old bones atop something along the lines of one of these and aim for the moon, as it were.
