Earlier today I mentioned that my friend Jason Harper has a new car show. Well, Mr. Harper isn’t the only one with a new show because I’ve got something pretty excellent to share with you all. I’m the co-host for a new web series called American Detours, and it premieres on Monday at AmericanDetoursTV.com. The basic idea here is that we’re taking classic cars, running them down classic roads, and myself and host Jael De Pardo wind up meeting interesting people at interesting places.
The first episode takes place in Louisiana. We’re exploring the Creole Nature Trail in both a 1963.5 Ford Galaxie and a 1971 Ford Mustang. Along the way, I wind up in a full Mardi Gras costume that I’ve been assured was designed for men. I’m still not certain about that. Regardless, the journey through Louisiana was fun, and it was made more fun because it was done behind the wheel of a classic car.
So I’m asking you to tune in, spread the word with family and friends, and help make this show a hit. I’m in another episode that airs later on where we explore West Virginia, and I get to hold fake assault rifles at the famous Greenbrier bunker. On top of that, I scare myself pretty good by walking across the catwalk of the New River Gorge Bridge… 851 feet above the ground. Yes, I am in fact afraid of heights.
Also, we’re already thinking about season two. This means more roads and more cars, and you’ll get to vote on which roads we wind up choosing. This series is going to be a lot of fun, and I really think you’re going to like it.

It is, but there is actually a difference between the 63, 63.5, and 64. It's mostly exterior bits, a bit of 63 and a bit of 64 make up the 63.5
Most significantly, this marks the mid-year introduction of the new roofline for the hardtop.

I've seen the movie only once, but am a huge admirer of Hunter S. Thompson and have read the book multiple times. As a car guy and a fan of the man, I cannot believe I blew that.

A good friend just returned from the Russian River brewery, and I paid him to bring back a growler and a 12-pack of Pliny. It's already almost gone.
I've had the Stone and loved it (along with everything else they make) and will watch for Pliny.
You seem to be an IPA man. Ever try Firestone's Double Jack? That one will remain in my top ten until I die.
Firestone's right up the 101 in Paso Robles. Might be a fun trip in, oh, say, a Lamborghini.
Yep, been both the brewery and the winery (which are now owned by separate companies, family sold the winery but kept the brewery I believe).
Pliny is harder to find, but if you see some run don't walk to it and buy as much as they will let you leave with.

Wowee… That's a lot of muscle cars. How do you pair the rides to the drives? I'm trying to think of automobiles that have specific geographic ties.
Oakies drove their Model Ts from the dust bowl to California; If you don't run over an Armadillo with a blue Ford pickup in Texas you're just not doing it right; Kowalski took his Challenger R/T from Denver to San Francisco; Auburn Indiana to Chicago Illinois in a Duesenberg followed by an IH Scout? (Too far out of budget? Just plow someone's driveway in New England with a Scout!)

Pacific Coast Highway. Dodge Travco. Finale.
The cars belong to American Collectors insurance customers. So how it works is, the team behind American Collectors pose a contest where fans of the brand can vote on a given set of road choices. Once a road is chosen, American Coll. finds policy holders in the area and reaches out to see who might be interested in being a part of the show. Once the location is picked, the cars lined up, the production team goes out a few weeks early to scout locations along the road that will make for good stops, and bingo bango post production magic – we have a show.
In the third episode of the season (I'm not in the second), we drive a 70 Roadruner and a 65 MGB – I was the only other person the MGB owner has let drive the car, and it was AWESOME.
Season two is in the works, and the road voting will begin soon. I will certainly post about that on Hooniverse, so stay tuned and help me wind up somewhere great. For some reason, voting included Miami to Key West last time around but people didn't pick it!!

Did you know that the Lincoln HIghway, America's First Transcontinental highway is 100 years old this year. The LIncoln HIghway Association is planning two road tours one leaving from NYC and the other San Franciso. and will meet at the mid-point of the road in Kearney, Nebraska for the centennial festival July 1. This is the "official" Lincoln Highway tour this year and not to be missed. After centennials only come around every 100 years or so.
