A wonderful Craigslist find, which is listed as a 1969 Mercedes-Benz Camper is just your ticket to sophisticated bonfires and the finest in boxed wine. According to the seller, this vehicle needs a little tender love and care but it does run and can be yours for $1,000. Oh… it doesn’t have any keys – but it runs. Hop the jump for a few more photos and a screenshot of the ad in case it goes bye-bye.
This is a rare Mercedes model that is more common to Europe. The body is in good condition with no structural damage. Interior need tlc. The motor does run but the keys are missing so an ignition cylinder is required. Only 105,000 miles it. Clean title. Please contact Nate at 5178617679 if interested or with any questions
Anyone know what engine might be lurking under a beast like this? If it has any power it would make an EXCELLENT LeMons tow vehicle…
Thanks to smalleyxb122 for the tip!

Down By the Classy River… A 1969 Mercedes-Benz Van For Sale
-
It appears like it's some sort of relative to the Unimog, so I'd bet it's probably the same 80hp 2.2L straight-six. Although they had pretty massive low-end torque.
So now I need someone in Mi willing to do some running around for me. I'd offer $750 for it, but I need someone to pick it up for me until I can come down and get it, which might be a while. Any volunteers?-
Dearthair, I'm your huckleberry. I live not far from there. I'll email you.

I think this is one of the Hanomag-Henschel tempo vans, branded with the three-pointed star. Daimler bought the truck making operations of that company in the early '70s, and had licensed MB-branded trucks from them since about '67. They came with the 2-litre diesel from the 200D, although the later cars got the 2.2. I'd totally rock that down by the river
-
Actually, I don't think that's a '69. It's probably a mid-late '70s van. Maybe an L508? I don't know Mercedes commercial vehicles all that well.
-
I've found a couple more, including one in Saskatchewan for sale; it's definitely a '69, but nobody seems to be willing to give any more information than "Mercedes Van". Maybe nobody knows.

Hey, why not? People spend that on a gram of smack. This will take you higher and lower.

Like this lameduck Michigan resident needs another project…
I agree, this looks more like a mid-late ’70s model.
The MI Secretary of State (DMV/BMV to a lot of yous) is notorious for screwing up titles, let alone the owners. -

That's MB L 406/408 bus, they had quite a long lifespan. There's mainly 60 or 80 hp motors and this bus is actually quite big so no chance for racing it, as a tow rig it's fine, only very slow. -
Whoa. Why would not I consider this?

Actually you could still find new parts for this one, from Iran Khodro Diesel: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Khodro_Diesel
They still make them (along with other 1970 model Mercedes trucks) in Iran. A quick Iran Post order from the mullahs, and once your new fender arrives, you can see Guantanamo from the inside!
