Boy let me tell ya. It’s hard to find time or energy for this stuff sometimes. Other obligations led me to miss last week’s piece when there were actually good stories to talk about, now more obligations this week and a lack of interesting news leave me empty handed again. Growing up sucks.
Did you do something car related this week? Did you make progress on a project or break something instead? See anything cool or do something fun? Maybe you saw a dog? Sound off with anything you’d like to share with your fellow hoon.
Have a good weekend.
Well technically this is older news but Feb 5th, we bought a new car!
It will be the wife’s “daily driver”/family/road trip car. It is a 2022 Ford Escape PHEV Titanium. It is grey which I’m not too happy about, but that was the one with the options we wanted. From her previous car and my current ride we had a number of must haves. From the C-Max Energi it needed to be a PHEV, from the Lincoln it had to have adaptive cruise and from both it needed a panoramic roof, and to have a spare tire.
Thanks to the Federal Tax credit and the state sales tax exemption for the first $20k of the purchase price (on vehicles that are rated to travel 30mi or more on electricity) it meant that the plug in hybrid version is cheaper than the hybrid and standard power trains.
One thing the wife really misses is the hands free lift gate that she got used to on the C-Max. It is supposed to have that function but due to the chip shortage they built a ton of them w/o that sensor/module and give a small credit on the options list. I’m hoping that all the wiring is in place and I just need to source a sensor and possibly change some code in the rear gate module with ForScan and add that back in the future.
I know some Fords (well, more than that, but Ford most relevantly) have shipped without options, but a campaign is launched later to install whatever’s missing as parts become available. Any chance yours will count, or it’s explicitly never going to include it unless you install it yourself?
Well dealers might be willing to do it, but either way it is on me to pay for it since I received a small credit on the sticker.
Fair enough – it looks like there are some parts they listed as a removal on the invoice with no credit, which seem to get covered by campaign later on (I know for sure we’ve got some ’22 Explorers on fleet that shipped without the rear climate control module which are now eligible for installation), but there appear to be other items we got credited for, which like you say, might only be installed at charge. That said, if I’m not mistaken, GM had some features where they both gave credit off invoice, and would still install under warranty as parts became available, so that might be what I’m thinking of.
