Easter is the time of bright colours, spring chicken, decorations and getting days off from work. And what a better way to enjoy a holiday than in a very very yellow Mercedes SLK?
The car here isn’t the most powerful SLK you could get, by far, as it’s the 200 Kompressor and a facelift one at that, which dropped the power output from 192 hp to 163. But still, it’s got enough kick to be entertaining, I presume.

In my opinion, Sunburst Yellow fits the R170 SLK the best. I’d imagine most are silver, but that is a touch boring in comparison.

And for that matter, I think these ones were the best-looking SLK:s. Moved a little from the basicness of the pre-facelift car, but no grafted-on F1 or SL nose on these.

Due to Mercedes-Benz’s iffy ’90s-’00s period, you shouldn’t lay too big of an emphasis on quality or body longevity on these, but the car here seems to have stood the test of time pretty decently.

    1. Jim Rogers, “Adventure Capitalist”. He had an earlier ’round the globe motorcycle odyssey via airhead BMW; I think that trip book was billed as “Investment Biker”. The BMWs he & his riding partner (wife? girlfriend?) used are in the Barber Museum collection.
Good way to finance absurd flights of fancy, I guess.

    2. Making the most of the happy coincidence that the SLK and the SWB Gelandewagen have the same wheelbase.

  1. These R170’s are, surprisingly, very robust, and the delivery of power is quite satisfying on the supercharged variants. I’d have a 230, in silver, with red leather and a machine-turned aluminium dash.

  2. I didn’t see any mention of the year, but this vintage of SLK provided the guts for the Chrysler Crossfire of which I have a 2005 model roadster w the 3.2 V6. Its a rocket and looks far better than the Merc version imho. The new SLK looks fantastic but I still lust for the big SL.
