Weekend Edition: A Quick Look at DV8 Motorsports

A little bit earlier this week while this olelongrooffan was out and about chasing down a Nash Metropolitan, I spotted this huge lifted F-Series truck and immediately knew I would be back to check this shop out. This place is called DV8 Motorsports and it is located right here in good ole Palm Beach, Florida. Want to check out some of their other stuff?

Although these guys will do their handiwork on pretty much any vehicle you can throw at them, one of their specialties are Jeeps, especially the Wrangler style. I have seen several of them around town and they are the ultimate modern day Flat Fender. I even noticed one of their logo decals on the rear window of the Miss Geico chase vehicle.

Of course, this olelongrooffan had to head on into the showroom to chat it up with whoever would talk with me. The entire showroom was filled with four wheel drive off road bits and pieces of which I knew absolutely nothing.

But I did have a chance to exchange a few words with Mark, the proprietor of this fine establishment. He mentioned the package price on this imaged Rubicon was around $25 grand, a number I thought was reasonable. That is in addition to the $43K purchase price of the Rubicon new.

Ironically, when I asked if the owner would ever take it off road, he smirked and said, “Never. 95% of the trucks we build never go off road.” Any of my fellow Hoons surprised?

And offroad or not, he did mention that business was so good they are moving to a larger facility over beachside.

Why would they go off road? Most of the owners would most certainly be so unskilled at handling either the vehicle or the terrain that they would be unduly risking a large investment. No, this is simply a way to impress their bro's and masturbate with their money. I suspect the proprietor of this establishment is at least smirking, if not outright laughing, all the way to the bank. Every day.

Hey, I respect this guy. He knows his customers but he still gives 'em the good stuff. Not his fault if most of them are douchenozzles – it pays the bills.

No argument there. His work looks excellent. As I said, he must be laughing all the way to the bank.

"95% of the trucks we build never go off road.”
The other 5% only go off road when the drunk driver lands it in a ditch or a pond.

I understand awesomely capable 4x4s, I understand Florida and, unfortunately, I understand the intersecting set.

if we only bought and modified cars in ways that improved their practicality and utility, we'd all drive 94 corollas
i have absolutely no problem with people buying bro trucks and driving them on the road. i don't see why my driving impractical cars from A to B and never for motorsport is somehow exempted from the rule saying we should condemn floridians for buying off-road-lookin' trucks that never go off road
if they like lifted trucks just for the look or the bling factor, i can't argue with that. it's the same reason i buy the cars i buy.

Don't apologize for being fair and level-headed when all many of us can do is bite our tongues and say nothing at all.

I can agree with that, with a few caveats.
If they don't recognise that their lifted truck doesn't handle like it's stock, they're a danger to others. And if the truck is a diesel that's intentionally been tuned (poorly) to belch smoke, then they're assholes.
Well-built kit like this, though… well, you sure aren't going to impress anyone with common sense, but it's your money.
