Wagon Wednesday: 1994 Bentley Brooklands Estate

Bentley wagon front
Estate, Avant, Touring, Kombi, it is amazing how many ways there are to say wagon. In my fake Bentley post two weeks ago Manic_King posted a picture of a non-fake Bentley wagon. Like woah, one of supposedly nine, made for some Middle Eastern price who has more money than sense. Of course it has like never been driven, and probably saw the outside light no more than a dozen times. But still, it’s cool and I want one! Kind of. Maybe. I don’t know.

The thing is posted for sale on a few worldly websites with the asking price of €149,000.00. That is $169,000-ish, by current exchange rate. It’s essentially a brand new Bentley. My question is, if that a fair price? And who would actually buy this for that much money in lieu of a, say, a brand new Range Rover or G63?
I’ll take my Range Rover Autobiography is Loire Blue, please.

Would love to see a spin-off of National Lampoon’s Vacation using this.

Looks like a great wagon. $170k for a twenty year old new car sounds a little steep to me. Twice what a cherry Brooklands goes for might be more right.

You know, I was looking at that earlier, and I am 99.7473% sure that the roof rack came off the Benz.

I’d go so far to say that spending the gazillion schmillion on this speciality Bentley shows a gazillion schmillion more interest, taste and refinement than the “new money”-options “Range Rover or G63”. Jepp.
It looks fantastic, in that there is very little “flash”. The conversion is executed very convincingly, and it appears to be a nice blend of utility and luxury. Apart from the rear bench that seemsto be non-foldable.
…and what’s up with the pillow in the rear seat? Does it cover up a stained white leather seat?

If you have a little less money available, or refuse to travel far from either Liverpool or Manchester, then you could lower your aspirations and purchase this instead:

Now that is an awful execution. Look at all the wrong angles:

Price of purchase should also include a trip to the painting booth…

I would hope the Bentley motor referenced in the (tortured) ad is the Turbo R motor. I’m a bit confused by the line, “Provide drive to all four wheels at low speed with a big trunk.” Is it an all-wheel drive? Does an estate wagon have a trunk? What happens to the drive at high speed?
Even with F-You money, I’d still worry about where to get it repaired. Shame to have something so delightfully improbable and never be able to drive it ’cause Nigel ownly works on Fursdays, now. Hopefully it’s all standard issue Roller and Bentley (and Rover, if it’s 4WD) parts from the ’90s.

But Nigel won’t be comin’ round vis fursday right? See the fing of it is, Nigel, being Nigel, has pulled a Nigel, a right one, and might not be round for most of the foreseeable fursdays this year.

So do I, the bit behind the C-pilar looks too short. On a proper wagon, the bit between c- and d-pilar is longer than the reardoor window., if only just a little bit.

I wouldn’t tell you you’re wrong if you chose to buy this, but if I wanted a rare British wagon-conversion, I’m going with a Lynx Eventer.
