Last Saturday, we decided to take a trip out to a little Porsche gathering in the SF Bay area, both to put some miles on our new Boxster and to meet and greet with some fellow P-car enthusiasts. It was a good time, and we were thoroughly enjoyed the vintage 911 fare. What we didn’t foresee, however, was that a group of Japanese car fanatics would arrive to take in the sights of our little gathering as well. This crew obviously rolls deep, as they arrived in a gloriously complimentary array of vintage and contemporary Japanese iron. A Hakosuka, an S2000, an NSX, and a Kenmeri Skyline showed up, and were dressed to the nines.
Having never seen a “Kenmeri” Skyline (C110 generation built from 1972-1977) in person, when it rolled past, I had to investigate further. As I turned the corner, I expected to see it sitting by itself, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw another three gorgeous Japanese sports cars sitting in a line. The old Nissan (Datsun was reserved for export models, and this was a right-hand drive “JDM” model) was in near perfect condition, and had been tastefully modified.
The Kenmeri’s older brother, the “Hakosuka” Skyline (C10 generation built from 1968-1972) was also there, leading the gang of four. It was equally minty, and equally tasteful in its modification. Also a right-hand drive car, this beastie was absolutely gorgeous.
The NSX was a later fixed headlight model (introduced in 2002), and was probably the car I’d most want to drive on a daily basis out of the four. The NSX has long been a bedroom-poster car for me, and this one was really well turned out.
I didn’t take any good shots of the S2000, even though it was absolutely enviably gorgeous, I just don’t have nearly as large of a predilection for those autos as I do it’s cohorts.
As I was about to pack up and head back to the P-car meet when this perfectly assembled BRZ drove past. It would have fit in perfectly if it had pulled up and parked with the rest of these beasts.
Oh, and by the way, this was on the same street as the Pixar facility. We didn’t get to go in, but it looked like a super cool place to work.
