Used Caddy Ads More Exciting Than Used Caddies

Commenter BZR has shared with us a delightful find — if, that is, you’re obsessed with things old, kitschy and novel. Wait, what are we saying? Of course you are, that’s why you’re here.
We, of course, do share that obsession — that’s why we like Graverobber so much — so it’s now several hours later and we’ve only just now managed to drag ourselves away. What is this wonderful find? Why, it’s nothing more than an enormous collection of Cadillac ads, from 1914 all the way to 2003. How enormous? Almost a thousand photos!
We’ve picked out a few of our favourites here, but trust us, we don’t even begin to do the collection justice. Browse our choices here, and if we whet your appetite for more, book the rest of the morning off and go browse through. It’s impressive in more ways than one.

+1. I could spend hours just going through those ads. Def bookmarked.
BTW how do you pronounce "bzrong?"
      bong? bizwrong? brong?bzzzzzzz.

Great stuff. Makes me miss my old Caddies. I love perusing old magazines for ads like these.

Compare "The Caddy That Zigs" to BMW's "The Ultimate Driving Machine" for evidence as to why Caddy has a reputation problem today.

Why was the Catera's mascot a pet duck?

    1. BrianTheHoon Avatar

From the three ducks on the Cadillac shield.

Shhhh! Since the CTS-V came out we've swept that bit of automotive fail under history's rug.
That was an Opal, not a Caddy. Ignore the ducks. Nothing more to see here.

It's really a Holden Commedore – between that factor, and the less than stellar 3.0 V6, a Catera's crying out to be turned into a proto-CTS-V.
Or, well, I should say it's crying out to be done more (it's already been done – http://www.pbase.com/elvin315/the_catera_v&pa

The Commodore used the same platform as well but my understanding is that Opel kicked it all off by rolling the Omega first.
Judges, can we get a call here?

        1. Maymar Avatar

I know, and you're definitely right. I just figure the Omega was sort of decent (since it was a contemporary of the walleyed Ford Scorpio, it looks amazing in comparison), but a good Commedore is pretty desirable. I have a way with improperly using words.

I love the Cadillac-Cadillac-Cadillac Style! tag. GM had some incredibly optimistic jingles circa '87-'88. It makes me want to throw on a pot of coffee and cook up some bacon, to get the proper feel for Morning In America all over again.
