Truckload Sale: Buy A Truckload of Ammo, Keep The Truck?

By Deartháir Mar 12, 2010

I'm unsure if this is one of the trucks, or just a stock photo. Either way, I'll take it!

In what may be one of the strangest promotions we’ve ever seen, this one comes from a company named “ArmaLite” which apparently sells the… you know, ammo-stuff for those gun-things that Americans seem so fixated on.

The ammo is delivered on a truck, which is delivered on a truck. How meta.

So here’s the basics of the deal; if you feel you haven’t shot enough of your fellow Americans, you can call up ArmaLite and request some implements with which to improve the shot-to-not-shot ratio. If you order enough of them — and we’re talking about an entire truckload here — they will load the whole shipment into an M35A2, also known as a deuce-and-a-half, for delivery. Once that delivery truck finally gets to you, the truck is also yours to keep.
As the story goes, the owner of ArmaLite has a yard full of old M35A2’s, as well as a warehouse full of excess stock. So the apparent catch to the deal is that you have to just order a truckload of ammo, from whatever he has in stock. I’m not sure how much choice you get in deciding what you get exactly. Still, free Deuce and a Half!
I don’t really understand the gun culture that exists in the United States, but I’m more than willing to ignore that for this deal. Someone buy a truckload of ammo and send me the truck!

  1. I actually learned to drive on one of these beasts, so they have a particular soft-spot in my heart. I forget whether there were two or three gear-levers — I think three — but after the dance you had to do to get one of those to work, every other car seemed simple!

    1. They're not hard to drive at all, I used to teach people how to drive them when I was in the National Guard. Five speed tranny, with a funky shift pattern, another lever for the transfer case. Hi, Low, and Neutral. The best Deuces have an air switch for activating the front axle, otherwise there was some kind of automatic transfer case that never seemed to work. Manual steering, with a huge wheel, which was OK as long as you kept the front tires at 55 PSI. No big deal, not much worse than driving a pickup, albeit a real big one.

      1. If you don't understand the gun culture in the United States then you don't understand the freedoms we fought for here and the willingness to keep those said freedoms. The comment "those gun-things that Americans seem so fixated on" is an uneducated ridiculous statement. You must be a liberal socialist.

        1. Yes, actually, I am a Liberal (capital L, thank you, it's a political party) socialist. Of course, we prefer the term "Canadian".
Speaking of uneducated, please go back to school and research the concept of gentle self-mocking humour and sarcasm. That was what was being utilized in this post, and I think you're probably the only one who wasn't quick enough to catch that. I was actually making fun of myself there.
And don't even get me started on the whole "freedoms we fought for" nonsense.

        2. ??I'm wondering how or why that comment is coming of my comment? Your not going to find a more gun toting guy in this place than me, and the fact that others in here choose not too is fine with me. It is also likely fine with them (i have come to think) that they don't mind my love of the gun culture.

    1. You are absolutely right, and I swear it didn't say that when I was writing this. Hell, I'm leaving it, because my false Canadian bafflement is entertaining.

      1. Shit, I meant to down clicky this dipshit, and clicked the wrong thingy. And, no, I'm not anti-gun, there's a whole drawer full in this desk right here.

          1. Yeah, I should. It's some great stuff. Hey, Mitch, you wanna read "Blood Meridian" by Cormack McCarthy? It's some kind of a wild ride, would even scare the hell out of that troll. Talk about antique firearms, this is a hairy story about wild ass dudes who know how to use a Walker Colt.

          2. You have piqued my interest. Tell me more. Or don't, just send it along, that works too. 😉

  2. I think that's IntenseDebate having a little shitfit there. it came in an email as being a response to my comment, and then somehow it moved. Not sure. Maybe the original poster got lost or something.
I, for one, have no problem with your gun culture at all. I don't want it HERE, because we don't need it in Canada, but it's part of your culture. Now, I also don't quite understand it, but I'm very glad to see that others here did pick up on that aspect. I have fired many different flavours of guns — it turns out I'm a far, far better shot with a handgun than with a rifle; go figure! — and do enjoy the sport. But up here we have an excellent police force, and most of us don't feel that we need them for "personal protection".
As for the hobby aspect, I can understand that 100%! Guns are beautiful things, particularly antique ones. It's a tough hobby to get into in Canada, but I'd happily collect antique guns if it were easier to do so.

    1. Didnt you guys learn your lesson in 1812? the US attacked Canada, we burn down the white house, and you still couldnt sucessfully invade. Give it another shot, mabee we'll burn down the pentagon this time LOL

  3. The Supreme Court successfuly upheld the 2nd admendment. The only thing concerning about this case was that it ended up with a 5-4 majority.
