A little earlier this week, this olelongrooffan was cruising down Alternate A1A just south of TheStuccoBox I call home and I spotted this second gen GM truck parked in the lot of a local filling station. As it has been a while since I have seen anything Truck Thursday worthy, I kinda figured that whipping a Ueee and gathering up some images of it was in my near future. And it was.
As all badging with the exception of this “Cruisin” tag had been removed from this flat black pickemup truck, identifying it as anything other than a second generation General Motors C series is nigh onto impossible for this olelongrooffan. I do know that both Chevrolet and GMC offered, with the exception of the front grille, identical bodied pickups of this design from the model year 1967 to 1972. I personally like the egg crate grille on the 72 Chevy the best.
While the fit and finish on this one was definitely not show quality, overall with the custom appliques and the flat black paint, it was definitely a good twenty footer.
Out back there were plenty of running lights to showcase this louvred tailgate special and the clear tail lights were an interesting touch. I’m thinking the hasps and locks on that camper will do the job in keeping any curiousity seekers away.
But yeah, the sighting of “Da Beater” was enough to peak my curiousity and get me turned around to check it out.
In profile, “Da Beater” looked pretty sharp with those orange steelies and the baby moons on the front and the GM center caps on the rear. Overall a rather desirable looking means of transportation to this olelongrooffan.
However, this olelongrooffan is certainly surprised I had not previously seen this ole truck up in my old stomping grounds in years past. But know this year I’ll keep my eyes open for it and its origin.
