For your Truck Thursday enjoyment, I present you the classic 6th generation F-Series pickup.
This model is the Trailer Special with a big 390 engine. In 1973, I imagine a Trailer Special came with power brakes, steering, and heavy springs for pulling a trailer, similar to the more common Camper Special.
From the ad:
1973 Ford F-250 Trailer Special 390 V-8 Engine Auto Transmission ran when parked turns over and fires needs a little work.Good straight truck very little rust.
Yep, you read right – ran when parked. What makes it a little different is it really looks like there’s some potential under the hood, with just a little work. The body is straight, except for the ever-present fender rust (watch out for the rust in the floorpan on these old trucks, too), and even the interior is decent for its age.
Over to you – what do you think of this Trailer Special? Is it worth taking a risk for $1000, or would you let it go on down the trail?

Seeing how it’s in Missouri and the ad states “very little rust”, I’ll just assume the cab mounts are rotted out. Otherwise, seems like a decent example for a decent price.
That would be a decent deal, if it could start up on its own and be driven. As is – run away. The visible rust would eat everything in six months in my climate. I don’t care about the obviously blown out seat, but the ratty visible wiring may be the largest of the red flags. Proceed with caution.
I always liked the tool boxes on those. One rung down on the trim level ladder from the Ranger XLT.
Looks like a ’76 to me…
