You spoke, we listened.
Properly functioning images in posts? You got ’em. YouTube embeds? Check. Profiles? No problem.
Last but not least, the crown jewel of commenting, the Edit Button is among the many features we offer. Details after the jump.
HTML, eh?
You can now use the following HTML tags: <a>, <b>, <i>, <u>, <em>, <p>, <blockquote>, <br>, <strong>, <strike> and <img>. That means you can drop an image into your post, but it’s gotta be hosted elsewhere. flickr, Picasaweb and photobucket are your friends.
Do us a favor and ad: width=500 to any image that’s bigger than that. Do us another favor and keep it clean with the image embeds. We all love pretty ladies (or dudes..), but there are plenty of other places on the internet for that kind of thing. Our abilities to babysit comments are limited, so we’re just going to be mean: you get one warning. Repeated abuse of html in comments gets you banned. Repeated abuse by everyone will get the whole privilege shut down. Capiche?
How’d You Pull this Off?
We didn’t. The nice people at IntenseDebate did. You’ll be needing that link to create a profile, should you so choose. My profile looks like this. Since the same people are behind both IntenseDebate and Gravatar, your avatars should magically follow between both. In fact, their whole gig is to make it easier for you to have one profile across many blogs or other sites. If you’re not interested in yet another login and potential invasion of your privacy, you can comment using just a name and email.
Break out the Raid
We were able to keep all previous comments in the system, but it looks like previous in-comment images were a casualty of the Great Leap Forward. Additionally, mobile users will see the old interface. We’re everything still connects and works, but haven’t tested it ourselves.
There’s a known issue where sometimes you’ll see part of the text of a previous comment in the text box, as well as the occasional hiccup where it thinks you’re not logged in when you are. The recommended practice is to refresh the page, hard refresh the page, then clear any cookies associated with Hooniverse/Wordpress/IntenseDebate. Most of you are pretty tech savvy, so we’ll let you help each other in the comments and chime in when necessary. There’s also bugs at hooniverse.com.

Working images in my google reader? Awesome. Quickly becoming my new favorite blog.
-
Thanks!
-
-
Wow, this is pretty nifty. And you didn't have to hire an entire IT staff to do it. Strange.
-
The only way this could be better is if it was accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek "Look at how awesome these changes are!" post plagiarized directly from the [REDACTED] mothership's PR machine.
-
Haha…hopefully they took note. It needs to include lines such as, "You've been asking, and we listened" and some self puffery.
In all seriousness, Hooniverse has been much more responsive to our requests. Granted, some of that is because we are still a small group, but considering this is not any of these guys' full time job it's come really far really quick.
-
-
I think they outsourced it to IntenseDebate. Talk about a name huh?
-
Yeah…but the downside is that we're at the mercy of Intense Debate's IT department.
Their stuff reminds me of Apple products. Very pretty, generally easy to use, provided you're happy to stay within their feature set. If you need even the slightest tweak from there, you're usually SOL.
Hence: threads auto-collapse after 25 threads are started. No way to change that.
Trying to put together a "highest rated comments" widget for the sidebar…no way to do that.
All but the most major bugs take a long time to get fixed.
So…we'll run this for a while and see how it works. I hate not being able to tweak minutae to my liking.

Lookin' really good! Seriously, you guys are doing an awesome job! Thanks for all the added goodies!!!

instead of hamsters, we employ full grown chipmunks

Now, this is the kind of progress I can get behind. I'm pretty impressed, actually, that you were able to collect up all the old comments and migrate them into the new system. Now, onward.. Into the future!
Ahhh, "Subscribe to.. Replies" and ".. New comments". Love it already. Your new hamsters, they are shiny. -
"Capiche?"
SI. -
Also, do the admins have to approve every single comment?
-
No, it shouldn't be happening like that… I went in to make sure. I would chalk it up to a hiccup but I will keep an eye on this…
-
Figured it was because I commented before verifying my account.
-
it is possible… we are keeping an eye on the system. It will work MUCH better than the old version as long as we dont have to moderate any new folks…
-
Thanks. I did a clear all the cookies/history thingy and restarted FF. Seems to work fine now.

Alright, freakin' sweet! Got another account to keep up with and everything! I kid, I kid. Nice, guys, we got most of what we asked for. Now if I can only figure out what all that HTML crap means…
-
HTML = Huge Taco Meca Lizard
-
I am telling you it's getting more and more difficult to keep up with all the different accounts and the passwords. 3 work email/intranet/webex accounts, 2 personal email accounts, 2 school email accounts, FB, Jalopnik, 2 online bank accounts, Skype……the list just goes on and on….and of course then you have the passwords for the debit cars, credit cards, phone un-lock, house alarm etc etc…
And I try and commonize as much as possible without compromising security. And of course at work you have to change the password every 3 months and can't use any of your previous 3 passwords (even if you change the case) so yeah. Or maybe I am becoming old now..-
And don't forget, the passwords never have to be changed at the same time, so while you're still on PASSWORD2 on some of your crap, you're at PASSWORD7 on other apps, and you can't ever remember which is which. Then you forget the answers to your secret questions, can't remember if it's supposed to be in caps or not, and aren't even sure which email the new password is getting sent to. It's getting to be a giant pain in the ass. Can we just have a conference call or something?
-
Good thing I don't have to remember any missile launch codes..
-
-
*GASP* He said the J-word!
*Hopes no-one remembers when I let it slip a week or so ago…*
Also, can you expound on how debit cars work? I'm rather intrigued 😉 (I wonder if smileys still work)-
Debit cars..haha! Didn't notice that. Nice catch.

Love the new stuff, but I kind of miss the larger avatars.

Cursor over the images, big gravatars for all!

just mouse over the avatars…

Hot balls, the mouseover even works in IE6!
I wish I didn't know that…

How long does it take for this stuff to show up, anyway? Is this another bug to work out?

intensedebate, huh? I was never aware of this plugin for WordPress. That's pretty spiffy!

And it supports linkback to the hosting site, too! I was worried after [REDACTED] made that impossible that Flickr was gonna kill those linked pics as a TOS violation.

I obviously need to replace my Rat Fink with a hot redhead if I want my posting score to go up faster….

That picture looks familiar. Hmmmmm…

I was gonna use the one of you and the ladies, but I figured the AMX would generate fewer questions.

-
Whoa, hold up. You can't have spaces in your IntenseDebate name, and you can't change it either?
I'm gonna have to sleep on it.-
I went the_underscore_route. I think the minor hassle of being locked into a name is more than offset by the other features available. You can change the comment that shows up when people mouseover your avatar as often as you like.
-
Well, well, okay. Turns out there's a 15-char limit, too, so my debate as to whether to keep the "A" was thrown out with the proverbial bathwater, as it were.
But yeah, some Web 3.0 shit going on in here! Embrace change! Let's rock!-
Yep. 15 Chars max, hence my name change.

Well done sirs, I'm proud of all of you.

aaaaand, as you can all see, we've still got some hiccups.

Awesome guys! Thanks! This is great.

Known "Issue": On posts with more than 25 comments, replies are auto-collapsed. The work-around is to not use threaded comments…we'll see which is more annoying.

I think it's going to take a wrecker and some creative stacking.

You'd be amazed at what I can do with a Ridgeline, homemade trailer and a tow strap. Luckily, I'm not allergic to poison ivy. And judging by that photo…I'd be swimmin in some.

So I can't post images directly from my computer? That kinda sucks. Guess I'll just have to establish a Flickr account. Thing is, my connection speed is slow as hell, takes forever to upload images. Oh well, might as well get with the program… Otherwise, this is pretty nifty.
-
Lets try this then and see what happens. Here is a picture of my brother's old Chevy truck. Well, you only get to see the bowtie exhaust but I thought it was cool.
<img src="http://www.flickr.com/photos/7785083@N04/3506074857/" width=500" />-
Never noticed that before. Nice one.
-
-
Hey twin bro ;P
-
I see the Embed video button, but is there still one for pictures?
-
No, you have to host them elsewhere and link them in. I use Flickr, because they make the process totally painless and it isn't blocked by SmartFilter.
-
So I have to try to remember the whole html thing again….
-
Or just post them to a Flickr account and use their handy dandy prefab HTML. All you have to do is copy and paste.
-
-
-
-
Amazingness!
-
Nope, you need to refresh.
In Firefox, the "tabmix plus" plugin allows you to set a tab to refresh every ___ minutes. Useful for keeping an eye on things. -
You'll have to travel to a rural back-road near Meadow Vista, CA, then look over the huge blackberry bushes as you drive by.
After that, you'll have to talk to the scary hermit owner of the collection.
I was told by a stoned guy on a motorcycle who was looking for a dog that the owner of the property used to be a lawyer…or a doctor…and that he used to take old cars as payment for his services. That was an interesting afternoon.-
I love scary hermits. Unless they have guns. Or missing eyes.

Surprise!
Here we are for 6801 – 6850 Now remember everybody try and reply to the topmost post by coupeZ600 with the 145 with the snow pompadour. Also a Honda Z600 and an epic wagon, right on! Here's Astrid and me from last week:
<img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_L7CpcVU28Sw/TUnKZ5G4_eI/AAAAAAAAAyk/HzuoyQFewTI/s400/IMG_0114.JPG" width="400">
Sincerely,
6801
PS: Remember, "Sort by: Latest Activity" and "Subscribe to: All new comments" work really well for this game.
PPS: This post itself describes how to add images to your comments, see I'm clever like that 😉-
Hello MZS!!!! It's been a long day of school work for me. How has your day been?
6803-
Hi BB, I replied to you above.
-
-
-
szm, mzs, mtv…….and the beat goes on and on and on and on. I hope BB figures out the formula for posting images. I know he posted them here before. I think the width thing might be throwing him. Well, here we are. Vavon has already gone to bed, so we won't hear from him tomorrow. Why the poof thing? Wouldn't anything do……like abracadabra?
<img src="http://static.desktopnexus.com/thumbnails/436095-bigthumbnail.jpg"width="500"/>
6802 -
Hi Everybody,
Oops this was not the post that explained how to embed images in comments in detail, guesss I am not so clever. Anyway today's lesson: How to embed images from your computer in a comment here.
First upload the image to flickr. You'll need to make an account.
<img src="http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2208/flickrl.jpg">
#1 use the "Share this" drop-down above your image
#2 pick the "Grab the HTML/BBCode" item in the list
#3 make sure you have selected HTML instead of BBCode
#4 verify that you have selected Medium 500 as the size
#5 now copy the code in the text area to your clipboard
Then you can paste that into a comment here, and it will look like this, all nifty like with the right size, your description, and if you click on it it takes you to the image on flickr- yes magic indeed!
<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2677/4025421321_0aeb174826.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="japan 068" />
Tomorrow I will explain how to embed an image you find online. That concludes today's lesson by Mr. X MZS (apparently what I go by on flickr, go figure).
Have a good one everybody!
6804 -
Dear BB,
I'm so very happy you found us again! Anyway we got all really confused in the first 50 here. This works so much better here if we all reply to the topmost comment, for this 50 the one by coupeZ600 with the snowy wagon. Now you can just come back and check every now and then to see if someone said anything interesting, or you can "Subscribe to All new comments" and then you will get an email if anyone replies in this number game here.
<img src="http://img573.imageshack.us/img573/8228/vavon.jpg">
The other thing that works well is to click "Sort by: Latest Activity" right above all the comments.
<img src="http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/227/lastact.jpg">
Now you might be wondering, how will we know who is replying to who, well that's why I write something like "Dear BB," at the beginning of every reply 😉 Phew…
Skaycog told us you would be busy with school. Me I had a great day where I went to lunch with Aga. In the morning before work I was playing Monopoly with Kevin (we started yesterady) and I hope we finish today after work. I'm going home soon. Also tomorrow I find out with Mercedes I get to borrow from my dad for a couple of months!
Sincerely,
6805 -
szm, smz, lol…….You really confused me with your Flickr tutorial on images. That's okay though, as I use images from GIS mostly, sometimes Bing.
Have a great evening, and I hope you finish your Monopoly game.
6806 -
Dear Skaycog,
Oh man, sorry about that. I thought I had done such a thorough job of explaining it. Instead I guess I was just thoroughly confusing, sigh. Watch me get everyone confused now!
Everybody,
So say you found some nice image, online and you have the URL. You wanted to post it here. Type this:
<img src="http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/9537/imgtag.gif">
Replace the URL with that of your image, make sure that you have the greater and less than symbols correct, double quote correctly, and add the width="500" part if it is a large image. Here is an example you can copy/paste. You will need to change [ to < and ] to >
[img src="http://dl.ziza.ru/other/022010/19/utro2/girls/devushka3/devushka2.jpg" width="500"]
Sincerely,
6809-
Howdy Folks! I always try and re-size the pics over at PhotoBucket, but then sometimes you have two seemingly identical shots, but one is way too wide….
The story about the 145 w/pompadour is a really good one (even if I sized it poorly) So, we run 12 hour shifts in the snow-plows, and when you're about to get off shift there's a bunch of people that want your parking spot because they're about to start. So there's two basic theory's on how to park; under the trees where you get less snow on your rig, but a bigger berm to climb over, or, park in the open and get buried. The guy next to me asked if I would need any help getting my car out , and I said. "Hell no! This thing is just going to vault out of this pit!…..
Right after the pic above I pulled a F-150 and a Chevy 1-ton over their berms

Hey, if you didn't happen to notice, I posted the rules to my proposed board game over on A-T, as requested. So you and Skitter can go to it. Although, realistically, I highly doubt you or anyone else will put forth the sizable effort necessary to assemble a useable version of the game and find three other suckers willing to study the rules enough to play it.
After all, when the guy who created it can't be bothered…-
Hi T!
I noticed, thanks! I downloaded the instructions and printed them, but in B&W it was too hard to follow. I will try again during lunch to understand. I'll reply more in the AT post later.
Come and help us count here, oh and can you see why Skaycog may not be getting email notifications on your end?
Sincerely,
6835

-
msz…….Good morning! I'm not having problems posting images here, but I think my example to BB in the last thread was a little more understandable than your colorful one. I know BB posted pics here before, so it's the added width thing that confused him. He'll get it.
We have blue skies today, and it's supposed to warm up. I hate to see the snow melt, but I look forward to higher temps.
Have a good day!
6811 -
BB…
Welcome back! I'm glad to see that you found us again. What in school is keeping you busy this week?
6812-
Since I am homeschooled, I had a LOT of lessons behind and all of yesterday and before then I was swamped with Geography tests and projects and I am finally almost down to being on schedule! so only about 3 lessons behind as of today that I'm going to work on right now.
6819 – How is your day?

-
$kaycog…
All of this talk about pictures is making me want to try and post one. I hope you enjoy the delivery.

mzs…
I like the little easter egg that you included in your photo posting writeup reply to $kaycog. Very clever.
6814 -
Dear 600,
That is a great story indeed! Plus now we all know conclusively what the plowman drives to work, en gammel Volvo! Seriously they are freakishly good in the snow. In the recent storms I took my Amazon into the unplowed sidestreets. I thought I would surely get stuck a couple of times, but instead there was just a poof of snow when the cow catcher went through and we just kept going. I passed a stuck minivan and a 4×4 that had to turn back. It felt great, though I did not think to pull the minivan out and regret that now.
Sincerely,
6815
PS: If you reply up here to your topmost comment with the image of the 145 more people will notice. -
Dear Tower,
Hey I see your face again Willis! Thanks, I try. I had to edit that comment a lot of times. In the beginning the image with the html tags had the url to that testarossa pic but it was longer than 500px, so I changed it. I had something in there like "oh say you wanted to embed an image of a testarossa you stumbled into on some forum" but I removed that. Now I realize that if you change the number slightly, oh boy you had better not do that at work (oops, too late for that) or school (or for a year or so BB)! Yikes, I wish I could change that now, too close for comfort, but 600 replied to it. I liked the image choice you made, more sensible.
Will you be going to Chicago auto show? I think I will but do not know when yet.
Sincerely,
6816 -
Dear Skaycog,
<img src="http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/6153/idmzs69.gif">
Nobody thumbs-up me ever again! Yeah I know I'm that immature 😉 I guess It's the images I use to explain that make it hard to understand. I weighed in at 205.0 lb this morning, not great, but it could have been worse.
Sincerely,
6817 -
mzs…
Why I will be going to the auto show! I almost forgot about it until you mentioned it! I'm excited now! We will be heading there next Monday morning (02/14/2011) and spending the majority of the day there. We usually go during the week as we theorize that it's less busy, which allows us more time to do "pile ins"…where my three friends and I call out a car and then pile into it. It's a very scientific test where we check out the roominess and inspect the build quality while in no way paying attention to the booth professionals. Then we grab dinner afterwords and everyone heads back home for work the next day.
6818 -
Dear BuickBoy……I'm a bit confused here. You have to always reply from coupeZ600's original post with the mullet snow picture. So we'll know who you're talking to, just start out with their name. I know it's confusing at first, but it does work out well in the end.
All is great with me. What's new with you the past week? We were really out of touch with you for a long time, and we all missed you.
6820 -
TowerofPower……hi, friend! That is an awesome Ford GT image there! You did a great job in posting the perfect image! Thank you so much!
I think CO is going to have some warmer days now for awhile. The snow is most welcome and I love it!
6821 -
Dear Tower,
You do realize that Monday is St. Valentine's Day, right? I wonder what Aga would think about that, no harm in asking right. Right? I end-up going every other year on average, so like autos hows in Europe I guess. If I go with the kids it's on a weekend, if I go with Aga it's on a weekday. You are right about it being less busy on weekdays. I get these weekday discount tickets from my credit union, they are not as fancy as they used to be, only $4 off, so that's another reason. If you stop and fill-up at a BP around here you're supposed to get a half off ticket, just ask a gas station employee.
Sincerely,
6823 -
Dear Skaycog,
Yikes, Monday is St. Valentine's Day! I was planning on going to the auto show this year, but no firm plans yet. I'll ask Aga if she wants to go. She did in the past, and they have karaokee this year!
Sincerely,
6824 -
@Skaycog: Ah, I'm getting the hang of this! Glad your day is going good, I too missed all of you too. About the week that we where gone, I ordered the new Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones!!!!! They are amazing! and I have had them for about a week. Everything I heard before sounds more rich, and some even sound like completely diffident songs! and the bass is really really good! 🙂
6823 – P.S. My sister got a set too!
<img src="http://i512.photobucket.com/albums/t326/buickboy92/Bose-QuietComfort-15-Acoustic-Noise-Cancelling-headphones.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> -
smz, zsm, dmv………Yes, Monday is Valentine's Day. Could you take your wife to car show with you and then have a dinner afterwards? Has she ever been to the Chicago show? To me, it doesn't matter where you are, as long as you're together. But then maybe she has other plans?
6826 -
BuickBoy……… You posted That's great on the new headphones. Bose is supposed to be one of the best brands. That image is really big.
Only two days until the weekend. Yay!
6827 -
Thanks for the invite, Mr. MZS ZSM MSZ (ZMS SMZ SZM) esq.
I'm excited to read through your picture posting pictorial and give it a shot. I'll have to think about a picture worth sharing. I do have a kind of cute one of my kid hiding out after getting a little overwhelmed with all of the people in the house for his birthday party last Saturday. But that will have to wait, as I have a bunch of stuff to get through at work, a 4pm meeting, and then a 5pm presentation that I'm supposed to go to and "network" at. I'm a pretty pathetic networker, but I have to put forth at least a little effort.
I'm looking forward to getting back into the club.

6828 -
Dear Skaycog,
Oh yes, like I replied to Tower, we have done that for St. Valentine's Day before. I just spoke with Aga, we might do that again. We can stop at Cheese Cake Factory on the way home. I have to ask my boss though if I can take the day off. Last year I took Aga to a mystery dinner. It ended-up not being as good food as I hoped, but the acting part was pretty fun and funny. I wonder if Tower will ask to meet me there? I wonder if he will bring me fresh cheese curds? I wonder if he will read this?
Sincerely,
6828 -
zms, zsm, rpm…….Ooooh, Cheesecake Factory! There is one in Denver which I've been to, and it was excellent!
I'm not getting email notifications on this thread. I just have to keep checking in. I have time this week to do that, but next week, if I don't get email notifications, I'll be here very little.
You have to many questions for…..I hope he reads them!
6830 -
tempesjo…….Holy cow! I haven't seen you for a very long time, friend. I hope you can post that pic of your son for us to see. It seems like he just had a birthday. My, how time flies by! It sounds like you are very busy at work.
Again, it's soooooooo good to see you!!!!!!!
6831 -
Eleanor and I wish you all a good night!

mzs…
I did read your comment! It would be splendid to finally meet you. I didn't want to ask outright in case you weren't able to come on that day. But if you are able to come we could meet…in say the Volvo section.
And I do realize that it's Valentine's day and my girlfriend and I will be celebrating Saturday night rather than on Monday. We live about an hour and a half apart right now so we weren't really planning on doing anything the day of anyways. I'm quite excited this year as I came up with a fun way of giving her gifts…a scavenger hunt! I hid the presents around the my house and then I placed clues on each present (3 total) and they each lead to the next.
6833 -
$kaycog…
I thought that if I put a picture of a GT being delivered in the snow that maybe it would appear outside of your place! I suppose the world doesn't work that way though. That picture just looks odd with that super clean supercar against some dirty road snow, it's a heck of a time for a delivery of that sort.
6834-
Oops somehow my reply to you ended-up outside of this thread. It's here in this page though if you search for 6840 though.

-
Dear Tempesjo,
Glad to see you're here! I hope you can make sense of my instructions cause I think they just gave people headaches. Speaking of headaches…<img src="http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_6jgCsQ8C8nU/SuNhlpAvD_I/AAAAAAAAAcE/xToN8RavPws/DSC00312.jpg">CLICK THIS
FWIW I've read you shouldn't put pictures of your family or yourself online, but I guess I'm not great at taking advice. Also where's the fun in that?
Happy belated b-day to your son!
Sincerely,
6836 -
szm, zms, mtv………I'm getting email notifications this morning. That really helps tremendously! Cute pic of your family you just posted. That must have been a few years ago, as the kids are so small.
6837 -
TowerofPower……Ha! I do wish that Ford GT had appeared at my door, even in the snow! That is a great image. I wish I knew the story behind it. Where, what, when and who. 😉
6838 -
Dear BB,
You're posting pics again, yippie! My father lent to me his '06 C280 4matic. It's funny last night he said to me, "Your Volvo is nice, but once you drive the Mercedes for a while you will never buy anything else again." I'm not sold yet, the radio did not work right in the cold (-12F!) this morning, also the lights flickered on a bump last night, I'm getting a bad German electricals vibe once more with this car. That or Astrid gt jealous messed with the C in the middle of the night. Transformers was a documentary like Nature on PBS, right?
Anyway another bit from my dad last night. As I was leaving I had all sorts of questions, like how do you use the lights, dim the mirror, etc. My dad said something like, "The vast majority of buttons are not about driving but about you. In a Mercedes you just get in and drive away. Everything is automatic as much as it can be. That's what you will fall in love with." Anyway I'm not sold yet, but it sounds like my dad would make a smashing car salesman.
Sincerely,

Dear Tower,
Yes I did not want to ask directly as well. I do not know for sure if I am going yet, but Volvo area at some scheduled time sounds like a plan. I'll let you know. The scavenger hunt is an excellent idea! You're a great boy friend! I did something like that a long time ago, but I scattered the gifts farther. Earlier I bought a present, asked them to wrap it, and keep it behind the counter. Then the first clue sent Aga there. It actually worked! Then the next clue sent her back to the apartment, where there was a clue that sent her to a hotel. When she left the apt for the store I grabbed a bag stuffed a change of clothes in there and left. Unfortunately she returned on a different route than I expected and saw me on the bicycle headed for the hotel. It still worked great, I got a lift in the car to the hotel 😉
Man I NEED to think of something really clever and sweet like you did… More coffee!
Sincerely,

Dear Skaycog,
Yes I think that the photo was from 6 years ago. Did you click it? (hee hee hee) I remember Michelle lost her shoe there. That's a strange thing to recall, oh well.
I'm glad you are getting emails again. I asked Mr. T. himself for help. I wonder if he kicked something. I just noticed that someone had thumbs-up-ed some of my replies here when I asked. That's okay I'm still at 69. Remember, I'm a real fan of Bill and Ted's Keanu Reeves. If my 69p ever changes, I'll have to create fake account and thumbs down myself a bunch I guess.
So do you have any neat ideas for Aga? Also where's Vavon?
Sincerely,

PS: 204.2 lb and I ate at my mom's yesterday, phew that was a close one. -
szm, smz, pdq……..Vavon is still in Holland, and I don't get replies from him often. We're still trying to get things working. I think he goes back to Paris this weekend. I hope he has some pictures!
I think the Valentine's Day scavenger hunt is the greatest idea. Even though you've done it, it's always a memorable event and a lot of fun. Usually, you can't go wrong with a necklace, diamond or precious gem. If you've never given her a heart pendant, I think she'd love one. There are some absolutely gorgeous ones out there.

Dear Skaycog,
I already got a gift, a Canon 500D. It's a camera, since she loves taking pictures so much. It was a birthday gift as well. The whole family pitched in. She really likes it, as you can imagine. I know I've written about how we feel about jewelry before. It's a real cop-out gift. Like I see all the increase for jewelry advertising around this time, I see the same for watches for men, sigh. Remember how I got the ring, I tried to make it all special and match the wedding ring, with the cake and the garden hose holder. I was thinking maybe notes/poems…
I forgot last time, what is the meaning of Eleanor? All I can think of is the song "Eleanor Rigby" ("… all the lonely people …") but I just can't see the connection. Was it a Ford code name or something? Also Jo Schmo calls something his Eleanor? I'm just not in the loop I guess…
Sincerely,

PS: I ran into this again today:

msz, szm, rofl…….I disagree about jewelry being a cop-out or flowers or candy. I love to receive both of them, but if Mr. Special would give me a book or whatever, I'd think it wonderful. (No, there's no Mr. Special). Anyway, it's the giver, not the gift that's important to me.
Eleanor is the Mustang in the 1974 movie, Gone in 60 Seconds, with Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie and Robert Duvall. If you haven't seen it, it's a very exciting movie where they wreck 90+ cars. I haven't seen it for a very long time. I'll see if I can embed the video (a first).

Hello Ms. Skaycog.
It's nice to be back. I have been busy at work recently, and around the house as well. We're still planning to move sometime in the next year, and I continue to put the finishing touches on our house to get it ready to sell. Although it seems the finishing touches are never-ending, and new ones keep popping up that I need to deal with.
Not a fun day at work today, as a co-worker's father passed away last weekend and the service was today. I spent most of the morning in the car driving to the service that's was an hour away, and sitting in a church for the other part. I hadn't been to a catholic service for a while. I forgot they last a little longer than the protestant services I've been to.
My wife made the animal cupcakes again for the kid's birthday, even though it meant staying up until 1:30am to get them done.
How have you been?
uhoh, are we in a new thread?

Sure is a new place now: https://hooniverse.com/2010/05/14/last-call-not-a-… But you beat me to it! See you there! I had a Catholic wedding, not a Catholic funeral myself yet though, phew on that.

Dear Vavon,
Alright I can't wait for the recipe! I have an idea about what your link is about (caught wind of it before work), but I vowed to not go to any gawker places during work anymore and for the most past I have done that except for a while I did not realize that one of my homepage settings was set to jalop on one work computer. Also a few times I have click on links from other car places that took me to jalopnik when I was not careful enough. I had a rough day here at work after that gawker password theft happened. But my guess is that the Canadian version will not be around in it's really pleasant form for long. The new one, though getting faster, is still too slow on my computers at home to enjoy, and also the trackpads make me zip to other posts accidentally all the time. I am spending very little time there anymore sadly.
Wait why did I just write all that? Sorry. Anyway I want to hear all about your trip when you get back this weekend! I'll be back with a new place in a jiffy.
Sincerely,
