I’m in Santa Cruz this weekend for Porsche 912 Rendezvous. Something that is ostensibly “work”. I go every year, and it’s always a great time. This year over 50 cars are attending. Anyhow, our car show is this weekend in Canepa’s parking lot, so we dropped by Canepa this afternoon after lunch just to check things out on a non-busy day. This shot was taken from the catwalk around the top of their workshop. I’m never one for a Countach, they just don’t do anything for me, but to see such a complex design stripped down to the bare essentials makes me a little bit happy.

The Countach will always be one of THE cars.
Miura is one of the best designs of all time.
Countach is blah to me. No style, just edge.
Whereas the Miura is curves.

It may be an age thing. For some of us, it represented the evolution of all of the awesome design house concept cars of the preceding few years. It looked like the future.
Though the Daytona is curvy too. What a choice.

To my mind the Countach is the Ur-Batshit Insane Supercar and I will always love it for that. Everything about it says because fuck you. From it’s because fuck you scoops, flares and wing, to it’s because fuck you mail slot of a rear window.
Why doesn’t it matter that the build quality is somewhere between a Trabant and a Yugo? Why doesn’t it matter that a modern Mustang or Camero would embarrass it on a racetrack? Come on. Say it with me. Because, fuck you.
It’s waaaaaay better if you can say it in Italian, with the associated hand emphases.
One of these days, I’ll learn the language of my people. Until then, a glorious Fuck You! it is!
