Podcast: Episode 80 – Diesel Driving Death March

Podcast-Image-Lead-80

Myself and Blake Z. Rong head into the Podcast Business Office to prattle on about cars. The main topic of the evening is Rong’s recent participation in the Audi A3 TDI Mileage Challenge. He was tasked with driving from Albuquerque, New Mexico to San Diego… on one tank of diesel fuel. That’s 824 miles of driving required. That’s damn near impossible, but two teams managed to pull it off.

From there the talk moves to the recent Motor Press Guild Track Day event, where I got seat time in a variety of vehicles out at Willow Springs.

Thought this might be of interest to you guys. Two years ago, I didn’t subscribe to any podcasts. Today, I subscribe to 5 (including this one). What changed? Well, there are more quality podcasts, for one. And second, it is easier to download them onto smartphones for playback while driving. Keep up the great work.

Oh, and yes, the Hotel Parque Central is the best hotel in ABQ. It is a quiet place to sleep, even though it may be haunted (three stays, so far, so good). Thy have a rooftop bar that serves the best gin 'aviation' cocktails in the US. They are a block away from the motel seen in season 1 of Breaking Bad (where Hank shows Juniorthe horrors of junkie life). And they are steps away from two fine restaurants, Farina Pizza (a pizza, wine, and beer bar), and the Standard Diner, a bacon and meat mecca that was featured on Diners Drive Ins & Dives.
