NYIAS 2013: Photo dump part threeve

Hello, and welcome to part three of our 2013 New York International Auto Show image dumping series. In this part we focus on more random and interesting stuff that you may care about.

NYIAS_0135

New Acura MDX. While this maybe another beige SUV for many, it’s an important vehicle for me as I currently own the first generation MDX. It’s been a great car to me, and trying as my wife can, she cannot kill it. It’s big-ish, comfortable, quiet, reliable, and retains value amazingly well.

NYIAS_0134

This guy was yapping about something in front of the AMG CLS45, and wouldn’t move.

NYIAS_0133

E63 Wagon. Anyone want to buy a kidney?

NYIAS_0132

Most people loved this thing… I’m still on the fence.

NYIAS_0131

Would hoon from Paris to Monte Carlo at night.

NYIAS_0130

What’s up with that sticker on the bottom?

NYIAS_0129

Z/28, the Boss 302 of Camaros.

NYIAS_0127

Someone wanted to see how the Corvette with an open hatch looks like – there you go. You ask, Hooniverse delivers. Sometimes.

NYIAS_0125

The targa roof is made of yummy carbonfiber.

NYIAS_0124

Weird location for the “oh-shit-bar”.

NYIAS_0123

Synchronized Corvette picture taking.

NYIAS_0122

Little wide… R-compounds, likely to kill you in the rain.

NYIAS_0121

Pirelli P-HERO. Dem is probably pricey fancy rotors.

NYIAS_0115

The Accord of Palm Beach. Seriously, they’re everywhere there.

NYIAS_0113

Range Rover Sport. 5+2 sitting, I’m-on-top-of-the-world-and-I’m-better-than-you driving position, handsome looks… I want this, really badly.

Don’t judge me.

Also, if I had this, I would solve the world peace problem… because I would be… Bond, Kamil Bond!

That does not even sound right… Sigh.

NYIAS_0112

Jaaagggg XJR. This or S8? Or S63?

It’s handsome but a little dated inside.

NYIAS_0111

Jaaagggg XKR-S GT, now with more GT, more carbonfiber, more alcantara, more money… less weight!

Only 30 will be made and one has already been sold!

Goat

Jeff put this picture in. I seriously have no idea where this picture came from or what’s it doing here… maybe from his secret ghay pr0n folder (not that there’s anything wrong with that)… really, no idea and, frankly, I don’t want to know. I don’t even recall seeing a GTO at the show.

NYIAS_0120 NYIAS_0119

Alcantara, because racecar Camaro Z/28.

NYIAS_0118

SS gets a new beak too. And taillights, now less Corvetty.

NYIAS_0117

That lip will be scraped before each one gets driven off the dealer lot.

NYIAS_0116

More pics tomorrow… probably two more photo dumps. Yea, we’ve been eating a lot of fiber. Carbonfiber.

Wow, if I bought the new Camaro SS the Z28 grill would be mod #1. Amazing how much better the Z28's mesh looks than the SS's bars.
And man, I can't get over how much I hate the C Class coupe's roof. I really like the sedan, but the coupe's roof looks strange and forced.

The headlights on the Z-28 look different, too; no halo lights.and no projector beams, just a simple quad setup.

I have to say I'm in the opposite camp. I believe a skinnier grill is the opposite direction they should have taken. I also think the taillights went from being unique to closer to run of the mill, typical taillights.

I was lusting over the Z/28 yesterday at work. I did some (admittedly half-ass) Googling on the carbon-ceramic discs it's got, but couldn't find a concrete price. Anyone have a good idea?

From the forums, it looks like around $8k-$10K for the complete ZR1 setup, which is likely similar enough to use as a good point of comparison. For instance, from GM parts suppliers the ZR1s front rotors run around $1400 a piece and the front calipers are around $500 a piece. Actually stunningly cheap for how insanely huge and powerful they are.

Hmmmm… A '69 GTO, with the retractable headlight delete option.

Also, I got pictures of an LFA at one of the local Lexus dealers here (Park Place, in Plano). They had a red one in the showroom.

Why is white still en vogue? Didn't get it in the early 90s, don't get it now.

Well, at least here in Texas, it's great in the summer, as it rejects heat better than any other color, so the car doesn't take as long to cool down inside.

      because fleet cars?
I overheard someone saying it was due to Apple's popularity with Ipads/phones/pods.

The only new car that looks good in white is the Challenger. And that has a certain movie to thank for that.

The new Camaro taillights remind me of the '66 Impala, surprisingly enough. I also appreciate that they fixed the afterthought reverse lights, which always bugged me a bunch.

I was thinking more BelAir or Biscayne-y. Nonetheless I like the lack of attachment to recent half-roundness.

The problem with the Z/28 is that it's a Camaro. Hoping the next generation doesn't look so fat with such an ugly interior.
That XJR looks great in the silver paint/gunmetal gray wheels combo.

On the subject of things happening in New York, the new Mitsubishi Mirage has 74 horsepower, is cheap, is tiny, looks like it was designed in the '90s and gets really good gas mileage.
Did Mitsubishi accidentally introduce some kind of intended 2002 Geo Metro?

That Z/28 is terrific. The first Camaro I'd want to buy.

The Range Rover Sport looks odd without tinted windows. First non-poverty spec SUV or van without tinted windows from the B pillar back I've seen in a long time.

Thanks Kamil! So now clearly I would buy the new 'vette instead of the z/28 cause of the trunk alone.

I have no idea where the photo came from.
I love the Z/28 even though I hate Camaros (427!!).
The CLA 45 AMG is awesome, Kamil is crazy. It packs the most powerful four-cylinder production engine EVER MADE.
The sticker at the bottom of that C63 coupe denotes it as a 507 limited edition. Even an unnamed Benz person didn't like it.

      It's very 1987, that sticker.

its got what, 350 horses? They sell an Evo FQ-400 with 400 horses out of the same size four cylinder. Still, mighty impressive output from the benz. I wonder if lag will be an issue.

just me, or does the 14 camaro look like and updated s13 240sx or the natural evolution of the prelude from behind, the rear 3/4 view, and the side?

Ah, Prelude. That's what I couldn't unsee. Also, Soarer:

But seriously, that slammed AMG wagon is downright hoonable.

It's not the Camaro's fault, the Vette designers are blatantly copying the Camaro's taillights. I'm sure it's better in person, but the Corvette photos aren't that impressive.
