Upon learning of what he did, the KGB put Godunov’s wife – Lyudmila Vlasova – on a plane bound for Moscow. The plane was halted by U.S. authorities and a diplomatic dialog was begun between then president Jimmy Carter, and Soviet head honcho Leonid Brezhnev. After three days Vlasova was allowed to go home.
