It’s nearing the end of July which I assume means we’re getting close to the dog days of summer. I sure hope so because I really like dogs. I guess a lot of people do too as there sure are a lot of dog references when it comes to the weather. In addition to being used to describe the hot doldrums of summer there’s three-dog night to describe the cold, and of course raining cats and dogs to let people know just how wet they might get.
I don’t know what all that has to do with this week’s Mystery Car, other than that I hope you doggedly attempt to solve it. When you do, be sure to provide both the make and model. Good boy.

It’s from somewhere between 77 and about 87, probably of Japanese or European origin.
It looks old and Japanese, and I’m sure I will fall head over heels for whatever it ends up actually being.
1985+ Reliant Scimitar?
I’m going to say a MK1 Fiesta (Edit: It looks like the MK1 & MK2 bodies are the same, could be either.) with add on fender flares. Stock was a Kent straight 4 of 1 to 1.6 liters. If it’s this one, then it’s a mid-engine conversion, but I’m not sure what engine.

Well done. Did you recognize that character line?
Yep, I immediately thought Fiesta when i say that line. I Googled to verify it and to check the door cut line and one with flares popped up, sealing the deal.
BTW – Is it that car? I couldn’t find a shot that matched the image at top.
I’d bet yes, but only Graverobber knows for sure.
When I saw that character line, I immediately thought of the Fiesta. A cousin of mine had a silver Ghia, and a friend had a red S model – he managed to break the steering rack loose from its mounts (Oops!) while street racing through his neighborhood.
Excellent work. next week, something harder!
That mk1 with the zetec must be quite a beast!
Where these Ford’s first FWD car in the USA?

To the best of my knowledge they were. I bought a 78 brand new, family car until 85, autocrossed it to death by 92.
