Morning Qualifying – History Lesson, Vol. I

"Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read"

All right class, settle down. In the late 1960’s, Bill Mason and Shell Films prepared a multi-part documentary on the history of motor sport, entitled “The History of Motor Racing”.  This documentary, filled with rare footage, is the gold standard for motor sport films. It is also long out of print in any format (and never available on DVD). So, let’s give a big Hooniverse hand for YouTube user, 60Muis, for making it available.
Read on, after the jump…
So let’s begin with Volume 1, covering the years 1902 to 1914. We’ll see the Gordon Bennett Trophy races, the 1st French Grand Prix, one and only running of the Kaiser Preis, the opening of the Brooklands circuit, the 1st hill climb at Shelshey Walsh, and much more.  I hope to bring you more episodes from this documentary in the weeks to come.  So pour yourselves a cup of coffee, sit back, and get yourself some learnin’!

        1. If your kin is frum, you're probably from Crown Heights in Brooklyn.
/have no expectation that ANYONE here will get this…

  1. As for the lead photo… change out the mortarboard for a wig, add a beard and… Viola! Instant LeMons Supreme Court Justice!

  2. These are excellent. The foley editing is particularly well done. I wonder if they had eye witnesses to these cars to verify the engine sounds?
