Michael Schumacher – Are things really better?

mercedes-benz-and-michael-schumacher Today’s big news is that Formula 1 great, Michael Schumacher, has come out of his coma. Furthermore, CNN reports that he left his hospital for another one where he will “continue his long phase of rehabilitation” Huh? That’s a miracle! Quoth the BaruthIf returning from this injury required some spectacular effort of will and determination, who among us would doubt Michael’s ability to beat it?”  So that’s it. To no one’s surprise he has done it, Micheal Schumacher is out of the coma. His publicist has scheduled him on the first episode of Top Gear’s new season. Mercedes Petronas Formula 1 Team reported that he’ll be back at work for the German Grand Prix. The charities he has sponsored will get the much needed help. Rejoice, this is all great news, right? Wrong. At least not according to Dr. Gary Hartstein. Not only is it not good news, it’s actually no news at all.

At the beginning of April, she [Sabine Kehm, Schumacher’s manager] told us Michael had moments of awakening AND of consciousness. Once again, by saying this, she told us in almost clinically perfect language that Michael was no longer in a coma.

Now, we’re told, with what appears to be a bit of a triumphal air, that Michael is no longer in a coma. As stated above, THIS IS NOT NEWS. I cannot help but think that this is a highly cynical use of language, using the truth to convey an impression that is almost certainly false.

Read the rest of the good Doctor’s perspective here. Everyone, even the people who despised him at the height of career, want Michael Schumacher to be himself again. Unfortunately, despite how the news sources interpret the press release, that is very unlikely.
