Last Call: Karl Lagerfeld BMW

By Kamil Kaluski Feb 20, 2019

It’s little known fact that the famous fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, corroborated with BMW on a design of some E32 and E38 7-series Individual models. And he nailed it. Rest in peace, Mr. Lagerfeld.

Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

  1. My wife and I are flying to Tucson tomorrow morning to visit her family and to go to this weekend’s Lemons race at Inde Motorsports Ranch. The forecast at the track is for one to three inches of snow on Friday followed by low temperatures throughout the weekend. Perfect conditions for racing a 1961 Borgward Isabella, I hope.

    1. My pal Bob has had his 1941 Ford hot-rod since 1959. It has very few Ford parts left in it. The interior is from a Borgward Isabella, otherwise I would never know what one was. (Evidently, teenage Bob though seats that folded flat were very important.)

  2. “Honey”, she asked, “does this Lagerfeld make my butt look good?”

“Yes, dear. Bangle is the designer you should avoid.”

  3. My latest crush: The English “Scammell Scarab” three-wheel articulated lorry (or “Triketer-Trailer”, as only I call it.)

Originally made pre-WW2 as the Mechanical Horse, it featured a 5th wheel (4th wheel?) arrangement that fit the horse drawn trailers of the day. British Railways were their main client, though some were used in tunnels because they could tow a 16 foot trailer and turn 360 degrees in a 19 foot space.

Only 60 known examples of the Scarab survive, though, so I don’t think I’ll be picking one up off Craigslist any time soon.

  4. Dude was a “visionary” and the best he could do was Buick up a BMW? I still say fashion is a cynical psychological scam to part women from their money.

    1. His vision made possible by BMW Individual.

Twice, the first time in silver and black on a BMW E38, and the very first ‘BMW Individual’ car made. The second time on another E38, this time, an L7, which was a unique model. With a wheelbase stretched to 131 inches, 10 inches longer than a standard 750iL and 16 inches longer than a standard-wheelbase E38, only 899 E38 7-Series L7 “limousines” were made from 1997-2001. All L7s were powered by the 750iL’s 5.4-liter V12 making 322 horsepower and 361 lb-ft of torque. This second 7 Series’ exterior color was achieved by painting Chestnut Brown Metallic over Gold Orange Metallic for a glowing effect, the interior featured a special order chocolate-colored leather (button-tufted just like a Buick) with orange piping and yards of real walnut wood trim.
