He's just showing the curious passers-by the sweet dual Weber setup that he installed in place of the old SU. She seems less than thrilled that he would rather talk cars with his buddies than go to the matinee of Hope Floats*.
Been there.
*Notice to hoons: Hope Floats is not a movie about the Amphicar. Don't be fooled.
If it was about the Amphicar, it would have been called Hope Rusts and Slowly Sinks
Made me choke on my drink right there.
Given the era, he's probably trying to avoid the next showing of Love Story

HA! Been there myself, with more than a few girlfriends and 2 wives, not the British cars though. It’s rare to find a “car girl” so there have been those rare times when I’d meet another “motorheard/gearhead/etc. and my day would stall until I “came to” (or the other guys wife/G-F “reminded” him)and realized that I did in fact, have an attractive female waiting most patiently for me. I always make it up to ’em though.
This picture needs more tweed jackets.
Hey! It's the crew from Hemmings Motor News!
