I had enough orange Hot Wheels track as a kid to set up an in run from the wooden deck out back, down six feet to the lawn and then the red plastic jump. The cars would fly about ten feet, which I thought was pretty cool. I'm imagining a full scale version right now. I don't think this Olds would hold up as well as my Hot Wheels did, though.

Ten feet? I'm certain the Olds could beat that. Well, once anyway.

Yeah, and the result would be a crying shame. Maybe send a Prius or a Pontiac Aztek down the full scale track instead. I wouldn't feel as bad about that.

Somebody in my neighborhood painted their Prius Aztek metallic orange. Perhaps you could swing by and pick that up? Many of us would thank you…

It's times like this, at the end of a long day of what is laughingly called "business development", when the spawn are abed, household chores finished and the daily commitment to spousal intercourse satisfied, that man is free to muse. And so I sit with an ever present snifter of brandy at my side thinking of another car that, but for its size, should be hanging in a yellow and red blister pack at the checkout counter of the five-and-dime. I speak of the Rally Fighter, which I first learned of courtesy of a rabid Roy Wort.
That inauspicious introduction notwithstanding, I am intrigued by the premise which led to the Rally Fighter's creation. The automotive equivalent of open-source development, the Rally Fighter is the result of a collaborative effort by various interested but uncompensated volunteers. I wonder what kind of vehicle the Hoons would collectively come up with, given the opportunity.

Would it be a 12 year old proto-Hoon's wet dream incarnate, like the Rally Fighter? Would it reflect the unrestrained application of our individual ids – a real life Homer? Or would it, as I like to believe, be something that would make Sir Chapman proud were it to roll off the end of the line at Hethel?
How did I get down this rabbit hole, you ask? The thought process was sparked by your answers hobby or career question from last week. I learned that amongst are ranks are several engineers of various specialties, a fabricator or two, some capable mechanics and at least one skilled designer (who demonstrated today with a wooden landau'd Dodge Dakota that he would perhaps benefit from some adult supervision). Then there the guys like me, who mean well but whose lack of training or skill relegate us to merely keeping others' designs of dubious merit roadworthy.
So what say you? What would a Hooniverse version of the Rally Fighter be?

My dream Hooniverse In The Real World thing isn't a car, but rather the means to take each of our projects where they need to be: The Hooniverse Shop.
Lifts, welders, air lines, a dyno, a library of service manuals and other literature, sandblasting and painting facilities, a loading dock or forklift for crate motor deliveries, and all the storage you need for this project, the donor car and the piles of parts that come with the desires of our affection.
The Hooniverse version of the Rally Fighter is a fleet of project cars making progress and getting driven, not languishing in our driveways and side yards, hurting for the efficiency that comes with infrastructure.

Get out of my head! (and start making this dream manifest)

Hard to say, but peruse some LeMons pictures, and that would be pretty close.
