Last Call: A Ford EV blast from the past!

The electric vehicle has been around for far longer than most realize. I’m not saying those old EVs are actually any good. But there were EV attempts being made. In this picture, we can see just that and it’s super cool.

It seems so primitive now but this type of engineering required people to think way outside the box. I think that’s what intrigues me the most about it, how it’s so farfetched of a concept but probably was an important stepping stone in finding the solution. It’s also weird to think about how some of our modern technology will be looked at the same way in 50 years. It’s hard to comprehend but fun to consider.

Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, but it’s also encouraged.

I wouldn’t know what to do with a Pinzgauer if I had one, so I guess delivering hand sanitizer for free would be an idea?

Wait, is the hand sanitizer free or just the delivery?

It looks like the 83rd Powell pickup to even be built is up for sale. Sadly though, the fishing rod tubes were not ordered with this one.

(Spotted one block from where Truckla the Teslamino is parked.)

Big fan of Pinzgauers, but you don’t really get a sense of their scale (or lack of it) without another car in the image.

Probably both. The company makes booze in a laboratory. It shouldn’t be a big deal to them to change the recipe to hand sanitizer and crank up the marketing machine.

The hand is free. Having your sanity delivered costs extra.

Just a reminder, the very first land speed record car, La Jamais Contente, was a EV way back in like 1896. And with a top speed of ~60MPH, probably quicker than that Escort.

Fun fact, I called my plywood canoe „La Toujours Contente“ to make a joke about its slowness and my relative lack of ambition for it (it was in the dry dock for more than a year).
Only after the painted name was dry I was pointed out that there was a car of that name, citing wiki on the Lohner Porsche:
The custom coach was a monster dubbed La Toujours Contente (‘always satisfied’ in French), a jab at record-holder Camille Jenatzy’s electric La Jamais Contente […]

I‘d never admit that this was coincidence.

Today, to get some groceries, I took out the Toyota for the first time in three weeks. No trouble except for a fair bit of moisture inside, condensation, I guess. But what really surprised me is that there’s a lot of traffic – everywhere. Much more than on a normal thursday. And there’s a fair amount of people in shops, too. I see all these photos of empty streets online, but every one of the three times I have been “outside”, it has been crowded. Anyone else with the same experience?

Yes I’m amazed at the traffic, yes it is less and rush hour is gone, but there are still a lot of cars on the roads. I just can’t figure out where they are all going at this point. Early on the grocery stores were packed, but that has died down considerably.

I just wonder how much of this is due to boredom – people just going for a drive. Alcohol sales are way up here, and the sale of sweets is up a whopping 50%. After a transition period, I feel just as busy as before – the kids crave their share of attention and I am renovating a room in the house. But lots of people I know tell me they are bored to death. This whole thing is a massive social experiment and I really can’t tell where we’re headed.

Yeah I guess some of it could be going for a Sunday drive out of boredom, or to get away from the spouse, kids or roommate. I’m expecting that divorce lawyers will see a booming business in the not so distant future.

I have noticed a pretty big drop in traffic on my way into work, with maybe one fifth the traffic I normally see. Seems like with the cafe/restaurants, gyms, and non essential work places closed, no one wants to be out and about during the 5 o’ clock hour. The drive home has a far smaller decline, maybe 90 percent still out there. Though to be fair, we have a pretty strong industrial workforce that fall into the essential catagory, so quite a few places are still open.

Unlike the electric car joke, you won’t run out of extension lead with this one!
