Knit Wit

If you can’t afford that Ferrari F355, why not just knit one? This hand-crafted wooly bully of a Ferrari will make your neighbor’s Snuggie look like Dom Deluise’s last muu-muu.

Lauren Porter knitted this homage to Enzo’s late ’90s V8 Berlinetta from 12 miles of yarn – and most of it in molto rosso. Why knit a Ferrari from sheep’s shearings? The artist explains:

I created a Ferrari because it is instantly recognisable and the opposite of what people expect from something that is knitted. Bringing binary opposites together results in the work becoming appealing to a mixture of audiences. I want as many people as possible to see and enjoy my work — including those who wouldn’t ordinarily go to an art gallery

Four round tail lamps, prancing horse logos, and Cuisinart five-blade wheels, she got the details right. And while it may be a little lumpier than you might like your Maranello masterpiece to be, it’ll sure keep you warm on a cold winter night.

The artist took 10 months to complete the project – less time than it takes to get a real Ferrari sometimes – and created the car out of 240 knitted squares, which were then assembled over a metal support frame.  Kind of makes that scarf your mom knitted for your birthday pale in comparison, huh?

    1. As would I! My first thought was "I'd cuddle the Hell out of that", while my second thought was "I hope I'm not alone…".

  1. I wish to commission a 951 to use as a car cover for my 951. Do they make Microfiber yarn?

  2. Psh. The wheels are crooked and I certainly don't remember any Rosso Corsa in the Cavallino Rampante.
It also appears the nice woman in the 2nd picture agree's with me. The horror.
