Disembodied sexy legs!!! A Mr. Miagi body double!!! Turbocharged Hyundai Scoupes!!! Spectacular ’80s soundtrack!!! An autogyro!?!?! Yes, yes, and YES! It’s hard to believe the American buying public gave the Scoupe, a miserable variant of the easily (and deservedly) maligned Excel/Pony, such a cool reception … but if we’d had this Korean-market ad, maybe Hyundai would have moved some more units. Click through to watch and, be sure to crank up the volume to “epic ’80s ballad” levels (somewhere around “11”).
I’m sure that the befuddled cop with the radar gun was wondering (as was I) what sort of JATO-assist would be required to get a Scoupe up to the indicated 137 MPH (220 KM/H), but let’s be honest, if you’ve got an autogyro waiting for you on the beach, you better get there ASAP. Unless they were all North Korean infiltrators, and they were using the Scoupes to return stolen trade secrets to Pyongyang via aircraft, in which case this ad takes on a sinister international relations aspect …
I guess the bottom line is, quite simply, that the Scoupe is “more than meets the eye.”

Commenters: keep it up guys
You're so literate
The autogyro adds tons of win to this epic film. I know a guy who built one. He's in his eighties, has loads of flight time, built the damn thing years ago and the thought of flying it scares the hell out of him. It sits in his garage. The thought of a huge, deadly eggbeater whirling around inches from my cranium unnerves me, too.
Same here. Compared to the competition at the time, Hyundai has typically done a pretty good job with their coupes…Scoupe, Tiburon, Genesis, etc.
Wait a minute! You know Q?

One of my favorite Bond sequences ever! You Only Live Twice has got to be my favorute Bond film. Thanks. Good on you.
Well, you know what they say about helicopters and rotorcraft in general…they don't fly, they beat the air into submission.
