Hooniverse Asks: You’re the new CEO of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi – what’s your company car?

By Kamil Kaluski Jan 8, 2020

Carlos Ghosn, who gave an incredible press conference earlier today, is out as the founding chairman and CEO of the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance. Whoever was his replacement is also out as of right now. For some reason you were picked to replace him. Your first job is to pick a corporate vehicle for yourself.

As the leader and spokesperson for the alliance you can pick whatever vehicle you want to drive or be driven in from the alliance’s offerings. The brands you can choose from include: Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Infiniti, Renault Samsung, Dacia, Alpine, Datsun, Venucia and Lada. Because of the corporate financial standing, you’re only allowed any three cars from the worldwide market and you can drive them in any part of the world. What do you choose?

  1. The classic Lada Niva 4×4 has to be the only correct answer, right? But the new-ish Nissan Navara pickup is pretty good. And the Mitsubishi Triton Ute is a sales hit in Australia. It’s like $25,000 USD? It’s basic, but really capable. I see the Dacia Duster all over Iceland. And I kinda like the Datsuns. So there’s a few good vehicles here. Personally, I’d take the Nissan Navara. NO! Wait! I got it! I’d take a Navara, but it would be the re-badged Renault Alaskan Ice Edition!

  2. I’d take the Lada Niva, because the company’s past is much better than its present. If they’d let me, I’d drive a restored 240Z.

  4. 1. A NV2500 cargo van with a plush lounge interior.

    2. Infiniti QX80 to haul the family around in relatively inconspicuous buttery comfort.

    3. Throw the folks in R&D a new coffee machine in the shop and have them warm over a new GTR for hauling ass.

  5. I’d get the boys at Mitsubishi to rummage around the parts bins and make me a Final Edition Really Actually Final This Time Edition EVO X.

And then set them to work on the XI
