People generally tend to think of their cars as an extension of their homes, and hence like to be as comfortable and productive in them as they can. That’s led to my personally witnessing people behind the wheel putting on makeup, shaving, and doing what looked like Sudoku while on the freeway.
It also means that, whether factory or aftermarket, there is a solid industry of auto accessories that engender personalization of the personal space that is your car’s interior—which we can all see. You can now get heated and cooled cup holders, mood lighting, and WiFi, all from the factory. Hell, my house should have those!
The aftermarket is an even more rich source of interior accessories, from air freshener trees to seat covers with herb-infused pillows for health while you drive. Considering all that has been made available, what’s the weirdest interior accessory that you’ve ever come across?

Hooniverse Asks: What’s the Weirdest Interior Accessory You’ve Ever Seen?
-
The mid-80’s Rolls Royce Corniche with the mini-bar (basically a flask and shot glasses) hidden in the doors was always my favorite.
-
I’ve always enjoyed the VIP/vanning style dash tables – not the weirdest thing ever perhaps although this one with a sake set takes it pretty far.
-
In-car bars in general are pretty weird unless they’re in the back seat of a limo.
-
….or in Russian cars. Alternatively, one can turn the question on its head: This SUV was offered as an accessory to a ballsy luxury vodka:

… IS THAT A PREVIA WITH A BAR! PLEASE TELL ME THAT’S A PREVIA FULLA HOOCH TABLE!
-
itsa Previa all right!
-
-
Is the airbag located under the table? If so, that’ll give headdesk a whole new meaning!
-
-
The Audi back-seat rice cooker…. because the immediate need for fresh rice far outweighs the concern of steaming hot water, bowls, and rice projectiles in an accident.
-
What’s “bizarre” in Chinese?
-
You think that is bizarre? Try the new Chinese swimwear trend…
-
Haha, brilliant! If it catches on, an excellent way to show a finger to mass surveillance.
-
-
-
The animated part of this is what makes this a winner.
-
I’m indifferent to an in-car rice cooker, but those seating surfaces look awesome.

Fiat’s built-in espresso maker, available on the 500L:
-
That is eminently sensible and I want one.
-
That looks like a can of Rustoleum
-
-
Automotive “relief bottles.” I don’t let people eat in my car, I surely am not going to let them whiz in it. You really can’t pull over for 30 seconds?
-
And seriously, if it’s that critical, you’ve probably just chugged a gatorade and have a handy receptacle that you can later dump and throw away. This thing is expected to be cleaned and reused.
-
Why are there graduations on the side???
-
How else are you going to keep score?
-
-
That looks way too small.

-
Never seen it, but I understand that the Mohs Ostentatienne was equipped with a water heater. Makes sense on a steamer. Otherwise, not so much.
-
While it’s not really a car accessory, a lot of work trucks in the UK have hand washing station with hot water to satisfy Health & Safety regs.

-
Fry holder.
-
…is that mounted in a cup holder?

Yup. Inside a people holder.
-
Not sure if I can hold that many thoughts simultaneously.
-
-
-
-
Nissan’s cubic hair.
-
Heh heh, you said — oh, no you didn’t.
Nevermind.

I went on the Pep Boys website looking for something ridiculous that I could mock. Instead, I found something I kind of want in the Jeep.
-
You were on the wrong site – J C Whitney is where you can find a 12 volt electric blanket. So much easier than turning up the heat right?

what if you’ve bypassed your exploded heater core?
i once had a job interview in November in Dearborn, and I lost my heater core in Pittsburgh the day before. that was a nerve-wracking drive. all went well though.
