Worst driver of the year nominations are in. Drum roll, please!
No, not really.
What you’re going to see here, though, is quite possibly the lamest excuse for race driving I have ever seen. There are probably dozens of devious drivers in professional series across the world today (Maldonado immediately comes to mind), but when it comes to outright vengeful driving, what Tomy Drissi did at Mid-Ohio takes the cake.
The guy didn’t exactly do himself any favors with this quote:
“It’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy,” Drissi said of the clashes with Ruman. “I said earlier in the show that if someone does me wrong, they’re not going to finish the race.”
Watch the whole thing for yourself and decide.
The racing world has just lost Justin Wilson, one of the best drivers in the world to a freak accident. I’m not saying Drissi’s driving is dangerous, but there’s no place for road rage in modern racing.
Trans Am racing is known for its fast, hard, close quarters racing, where drivers sometimes lean on each other a little, without crossing that line. Shame on Drissi for driving like an idiot, and shame on him for admitting that he wrecks people who “wrong” him.
To end on a lighter note, someone made a nice tribute to Drissi after yet another wreck at Mid-Ohio. Godspeed, Tomy. See you in the great penalty box in the sky.
