Hooniversal "User Submission" Weekend: Scary Steering Edition

By Jo Schmo Apr 30, 2011

don't try this at home kids!

This reared it’s ugly head on Facebook and Drunkcast last night.  Sure, it has been around since Al Gore invented the internets but I believe it’s worth blowing the dust off it every coupla years.
Behold!  The ultimate enthusiast site dedicated to “hold my beer while I weld this without really thinking about the consequences” engineering. What could possibly go wrong?
the ultimate anti-theft device, can't steal it if you can't get into it

rebar, if it is good enough for structural engineering, it's good enough for your steering linkage

I think those little coils in the back are overkill

booger welds FTW!

uh....

for those times when 4 leaf springs just doesn't cut it

suspension travel is for p*ssies!

hat tip to damnelantra!

  1. Worthy of note: The snorkel on the Toyota in the lead photo is purported to be functional!

    1. I wonder how water tight the cab is. The driver would look pretty stupid if he was found drowned in his truck with the engine still running. I guess the driver could wear SCUBA gear if he goes driving in a really deep swamp.

  2. less snark would be good.
I come here to see awesome stuff. If you don't like something, don't publicize it.

  3. dont remember what it is, but there is a website out there devoted to this exact subject, and there are some pretty scarey examples

  4. That DeLorean is awesome but you'd have to be 8 feet tall to shut the door upon exit.

  5. That scary steering site is not for me. He's too busy calling people names to make his case about what's wrong, so it's not educational. He comes off as angry rather than funny. And lets face it, everyone learns by screwing up, so I'm not sure why all of that is so hate worthy. I'm sure theres plenty of room for improvement in some of those trucks, but some of them look downright fun.
/end why can't everyone just get along rant.

    1. From page "5" of the site:
"once you take away the references to Okie bestiality practices, back seat goat sex/ritual sacrifice, and mean spirited foul language laden critiques of 4wheeler feature trucks… what's left???"
…funny pictures of backyard engineering gone wrong?
