Johnny Cash

Literacy is a good thing, but sometimes being literal  is not. In the case of this video that tries to visually match the cities of Geoff Mack’s fast clip lyrics as sung by the legendary Johnny Cash, it most certainly is. I’ve Been Everywhere was originally written by Mack using Australian locations, but was retooled with locales more familiar to North American travelers at the behest of Hank Snow.

There have been plenty of covers of this classic, but I think we can all agree that Cash’s version sets the standard. Check out the speed read of notable American locations after the jump, and see if you can keep up.

  1. Google maps claims he's been to too many places and refuses to draw a route.. bah.

  2. I bet there were plenty of volunteers to hold the ladder for the Jacksonville photo (1:44).

  3. Cool slide show! Much fun to watch and hear Johnny Cash's awesome twang. At :52 it is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which connects Saint Petersburg, FL to Bradenton, so technically not Tampa. I don't get to be a know-it-all much because I teach middle school kids all day who role their eyes and give attitude so thanks for indulging me.
