Everyone yearns to go places, to shed life’s routine and get away. The road trip is in fact one of mankind’s greatest pleasures, feeding the yen for new experiences and quelling wanderlust. But what if, for one reason or another, you were unable to act on those desires to travel to new places and see the sights along the way? This bittersweet short by video artist Tom Jenkins (he also did the way cool tiniest police chase video) offers one solution for a tiny toy made possible by Google maps and some creative stop motion animation. That kind of swelling orchestral music has the opposite of the intended effect on me now. It was better after I muted it and picked out something else which sort of worked.
Also spent a few minutes trying to find that road in South Lake Tahoe (1:35ish). Couldn't.
Thought it was just me.
