Fastback Friday Long Shots: A Pair of Vintage Fords

So, this olelongrooffan has mentioned previously that I spent last weekend down in toney Naples, Florida for my wonderful daughter’s high school graduation. While there, I spotted another couple cool old similar fastbacks for my fellow Hoons viewing pleasure.

The first one I spotted was this two tone maroon with black stripes edition in the neigborhood in which this olelongrooffan was staying. It appears to be an early model with aftermarket slotted mags, okay I’m sure there is a name for them but as this olelongrooffan is generally not a fan of aftermarket wheels, I just don’t know what kind they are.

But this ole early model, sporting the same tail lights as its fellow horse, the Pinto, and I’m aguessing the Blue Oval didn’t want to spend a whole bunch of money re-engineering those lights as they appeared, probably continously throughout the life time of the Maverick, although they were different on its related cousin, the Mercury Comet.

and that is evidenced by the ass end of this, probably 74 model year, later edition of that offering.

In fact, other than the bumpers, grill and some bright work, these two siblings would appear to be twins.

Although on this latter year model, its vinyl top rear hairline appears to have receded somewhat over the years.

And yeah, Jim Yu’s post on that Aussie Falcon is still ringing in my mind as I look at these US spec cars.
