Craigslist Crapshoot

The World’s Worst Car Is For Sale On Craigslist

Welcome to Craigslist Crapshoot, our weekly search for the most bizarre, awesome, and/or terrible vehicles that the online classifieds has to offer. For last week’s jump into the fire, I asked for cars and trucks that could give you wood, but lacked a long roof. We’ll pull out the splinters after the jump, but first this week’s assignment!

This week I want you to go supernova. That is, all the ads you can find for GM’s X bodies from the seventies, the Nova, Omega, Ventura, and Apollo, and we’ll also take any Phoenix and first-generation Cadillac Sevilles you can dredge up. I want everything from dingleberry quality to rest0-rods, as they can’t have all ended up in the crusher.

And as usual, we want your finds to go down in infamy and not in the site’s spam filter. Follow any of the following advice and you’re crap will be known far and wide.

  1. Easiest way to not get caught in the spam filters is to create an IntenseDebate account. If you do so and your posts aren’t appearing, let us know at ti**@ho********.info and we can put you on the whitelist
  2. If you don’t want an IDC account, you can create a wordpress.com account and do the same thing.
  3. If you’re the Ted Kaczynski type and don’t want any kind of account, then try to place only a single link in a comment and just drop any outgoing link in via its raw URL and not as a text link
Craigslist Crapshoot doesn’t work if your candidates don’t get seen, so hopefully following one of these options will ensure that the floodgates of crap are fully open. And now, Let’s see who wone the home-built look-a-like contest.
I am so happy that I changed the rules for Craigslist Crapshoot from just awful to anything from awful to awesome, and not just because of the intoxicating sense of power and authority it provided. It also made way for amazing discoveries like the one found by Karo, who also needs to find an Intense Debate account.

Last week’s contest created quite the woodpile, but Karo’s contribution – a Honolulu-located 1968 Mercury Park Lane woody convertible – is not only an amazing find, it’s also this week’s winner. After all, how could you top a restored wood-grained convertible on an idilic South Pacific Island?  Of course, at just under twenty five grand, it’s got a lot more wood than should according to my bank account. Way to go Karo!

      1. I can remember years ago someone hooning (it's a relative term) an ex-DTS GM six-window (New Look) bus at the Greenville Avenue St. Patrick's Day parade, that is, until the cops told them to beat it.

    1. Dude, what is it with the drugs down there?!
There are at least three extra digits on this asking price…or it's supposed to be in old Mexican pesos.

    1. Eww, that is scary looking, sawzall scars, sharpie marked switches, all the signs of a hasty build. Bring a fire extinguisher on every ride.

  1. Here's a sweet '77 Seville at Bonham Chrysler in Bonham, a dealer that always seems to have weird stuff like this. It just needs a set of genuine Cadillac wire wheel covers. Odo says 19,088, so it could be that or 119,088.

    1. I had neighbors in Maryland when I was a kid who had a 260 V8 5-speed Cutlass. I'll never see another one.

    1. Hey, that was uncalled for…I was trying to eat my lunch!
I tell ya, it's all fun and games until somebody gets mean about it.

    2. I want it and I want a blown LS2. Or 2 LS1's… looks like they'd fit under the acre of hood.
      Caddy Coupe? Anyone want some???

    1. How in the hell do tires which are…<does the math>…37 years old AND which have 76K (!!!!) miles on them, still hold air? Even for the 45 seconds it takes to take a picture?
If original tires…then likely original fuel. Four gallons of Techron, over the course of about 1K miles, will fix that…maybe.

      1. They never mentioned original tires. They also didn't mention that there are NO belts on the front of the engine as a possible reason not to drive it.

        1. Yeah, I was in too much of a hurry and I saw 'miles' as 'tires'.
It was a bad day, yesterday.

    1. Yo, dawg, I herd you like Seville, so I here's a Seville in Yurrup, so you can drive yo Seville to Seville.

  2. Where did the sedans go? Except for the white sedan above all are coupes! Give me a 4-door!

  3. This gets pretty local from a Norwegian perspective, and what I find looking for your answers is actually pretty cool. Just one car today, a 1976 Cadillac Seville. One owner, picked up in New York, spent it's only 60000km long life in Norway. Well kept and pretty. Squarish, obviously.

So this happy American will set you back about 15000$.

  4. I looked around a bit for a copy of that old Citation ad..the one where the self-supporting hitch is used to hook up a trailer and then they took the rear wheels off. Always wanted one just to drive around town like that.

  5. Okay, I've been thoroughly enjoying this site for quite awhile now. I strongly approve. Keep up the great work!!
This is my first post, I hope it goes well.
I assume a lot of you have seen this thing and who knows if it still exists or is for sale… but I thought it worth adding to conversation.
