Craigslist Crapshoot

The World’s Worst Car Is For Sale On Craigslist

Welcome to Craigslist Crapshoot, our weekly search for the most bizarre, awesome, and/or terrible vehicles that the online classifieds has to offer. Last week I asked you to find weird engine swaps, the weirder the better. We’ll get to the winner of that hunt after the jump, but first let’s get to this week’s assignment.

Well actually we’ll have the assignment in a minute, but first a slight game change for Craigslist Crapshoot. Since you all find a lot that’s wonderful along with society’s grounds in the bottom of our collective coffee cup, we’re going to add that as acceptable response, because we don’t want to miss all this great stuff. As such, instead of just the worst of whatever you are tasked to find, I want the wildest, the most audacious, whether bad or good.

And now, about this week’s search. This one comes from our own Kamil Kaluski, and he wants you to find. . . Brown Rear-Wheel-Drive Station Wagons. . . with manual transmissions. Yes, he’s weird that way, and now you can be as well.

And as usual, we want your finds to go down in infamy and not in the site’s spam filter. Follow any of the following advice and you’re crap will be known far and wide.

1. Easiest way to not get caught in the spam filters is to create an IntenseDebate account. If you do so and your posts aren’t appearing, let us know at ti**@ho********.info and we can put you on the whitelist
2. If you don’t want an IDC account, you can create a wordpress.com account and do the same thing.
3. If you’re the Ted Kaczynski type and don’t want any kind of account, then try to place only a single link in a comment and just drop any outgoing link in via its raw URL and not as a text link
Craigslist Crapshoot doesn’t work if your candidates don’t get seen, so hopefully following one of these options will ensure that the floodgates of crap are fully open. And now, on to the swap meet.

When it comes to engine swaps, the answer isn’t always SBC, or perhaps LS1. You all proved that there’s a dog’s breakfast of weird and wonderful heart transplants going on out there that their builders consider such great successes that they want to share them with the world, through selling them.

Of course there can be but one switcheroo that stands tall before the man, and for last week’s Craigslist Crapshoot king, I have crowned Volvo owner and weird Subaru finder FuzzyPlushRoom for this odd bodkin of an Impreza wagon with what looks like a beat to hell ez30d H6. Well done Fuzzy!

1. Okay, I got this:
<img src="http://images.craigslist.org/3G73M63N85N25Kd5M7d41fb1abc31c28a1588.jpg">
1976 PINZGAUER 710M HIGH MOBILTY VEHICLE 4X4 – $11999
"The truck still even has the axe in place and cargo safety cage along with the cargo seats. The truck seats 10 men.
The glass is all good with a new windshield. The truck is currently registered and inspected in Texas for the road. But off road this Pinz will go almost anywhere.
The four cylinder air cooled engine doesn't smoke and the five speed transmission makes all gears. The truck has locking axles and differentials through the use of three hydraulic levers."

1. Why only ten men? What's wrong with sitting women in the back? Is this some kind of German sexist vehicle that hates Skaycog?

2. On a related note, I watched the latest episode of Hawaii 5-0 and found it humorous that they tried to pass off an Isuzu Amigo and a pair of Pinzgauers as North Korean military vehicles.

1. I could see some old cache of leftover Amigos being offloaded though the back door to NK via Syria circa '93. Just seems like the kind of thing they'd do.

3. Now that is toying with what a station wagon is. Or what "brown" is for that matter. For the price of some stupidly impracticle Italian two seater you can build your own army of Volvo military vehicles here. Just to show you the tip of the iceberg:

Wanna go invade…say…Portugal?

2. Yay! Sadly, former Volvo owner… someone wrote off the last one by shunting me into a guardrail, and I haven't another yet. 🙁
Anyway…
<img src="http://images.craigslist.org/3G63M83Le5Ka5J65M6d4gba3716751bac1469.jpg">
Here you go. Here's the link if the ad goes down.
Is it RWD? Partly.
Is it manual? Yes, four-speed.
Is it brown? It's got dirt on it, and since it's an old Mopar there will be rust. The reddish hue is sort of bricklike, and bricks are made from clay, which is sort of a shade of brown. So, yes. It is brown.
Is it a wagon? Yes. It says so right there, so it must be true.

1. Or this!
<img src="http://images.craigslist.org/3G93Kd3N25Ld5Gf5M2d32a4d1782108ea196b.jpg">
It is unquestionably brown.
"Fuzz, that's still a pickup truck, and it doesn't even have a transmission."
<img src="http://pandyland.net/comics/random/B/4.png">
Yes, this is turning into me posting cool shit I found while searching. Here, this meets only two of our criteria. You should be glad I'm not just posting Outback wagons (because they're half-RWD and half-brown).

1. I want one of these, sadly this one is way to far away. Tin worm had its way with everyone of these sold in this province. My brother found a yard full of old relics that included three 77 corolla coupes, well what was left of them, one had what apeared to be a clean rust free body only to look through the windows to see a near mint yet faded maroon/plaid sr5 interior completly sitting on the ground. The owner said it was parked in 85 because the front floor was almost completly gone.

2. I cut up a Corolla wagon just like this (although with rectangular headlights) in high school back in 1997 or so. There was nothing wrong with it, but someone donated it to the auto shop program and it was too old to be useful as a training tool, and otherwise too worthless for anything else. So we cut it into chunks and took it to a scrap metal recycler.

3. Le sigh. I can't get around the spam filter. No matter what I try, it defeats me. I posted a couple, but they got zapped. Can an admin help me out?

1. A near-identical one – pretty sure it wasn't a Syncro, though – roamed near my hometown not long ago. I saw it on Craigslist and nearly considered it.

4. I've just realised that my new car is a brown(ish) manual hatchback (because Saab didn't do wagons then, or AWD).
Hmm.

5. BAM!
"Rare Mopar. 1977 Dodge Aspen Station Wagon. Very Rare Factory 4 Speed in station wagon, "High Performance" Super Six Motor. . ."
Seller calls it French Racing Blue, but nature has decreed it be brown, and is performing a slow iron paint job on it.

1. GAAAH! This one even says it's brown, but no pics.
1977 Dodge Aspen SE Station Wagon – $3000 (Long Beach, CA)
Original owner, all receipts/mileage history. Dealer maintained. 10300 miles, A/T, P/W, speed/cruise control, AM/FM. Metallic brown/brown int. Good condition. Two car covers + some spare parts. Best offer takes. 562-433-3921

6. While not brown, it just needs to be sandblasted and you can rattle-can it yourself! Also, look at all them sticks!

7. What Craigslist-scanning site works best? They shut down Crazedlist, and I've given up looking for cars around the country.

8. Thanks to Kamil for opening my eyes! My fellow Europeans are either colourblind or colourstupid. I have just clicked myself past thousands of station wagons in silver, black and green that were registered as brown cars. Holy crap! And now lets tickle two smiles out of Vavon:
1976 Peugeot 304 for a whopping 4000€ in Germany

Very nice Ford, actually!
Since you're asking for something sad, overpriced or underpowered, I give you all in one package:

…and I have nothing remotely smart to say about that.

9. When I saw that one on the internal mailing list, I was like "right, someone will find like 1 old Toyota and that'll be it".
Well, Tom did, but then you guys blew my mind as always, and here I am as the 67th comment on the thread.

1. Learned to drive in one of those. If that were closer, I'd test drive it this weekend.

1. I had an 86 and loved it. This is a great-looking car. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

10. Since Craigslist doesn't have much of a presence Down Under, I decided to share with you the only brown RWD manual wagon I could find locally (even though it's about 1000km away from where I am) – a 1962 Holden EJ Special, 138ci inline six, 3-on-the-tree manual, comparable size to an early Ford Falcon (marginally smaller in length), owner wants $16500 (Aussie car prices are usually crazy by US standards, but this is bordering on crackpipe territory for one of these – I'd expect between $10-12000 based on what can be seen in the ad). http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/holden

1. I can see a little bit of what you mean – the most obvious part is around the windscreen (GM used those same curved A-pillars on a lot of cars around that time). There's also quite a few styling cues taken from the full-size Chevrolets of the same era. I'd consider it to be how the Nova might have looked if it had been designed a couple of years earlier.

11. '55 Chevy 2 door, straight 6 3 on the tree. If you squint hard, the black and white blend to brown. Sorta.

'03 Toyota Matrix XRS 6 speed. The ad says wagon, therefore it's a wagon and since it's a Toyota it's beige and everyone knows that beige is just faded brown, so …
