Converting Mercedes-Benz Fire Truck into an Expedition Truck

mercedes-Benz 1017 fire truck to expedition camper TITLE

My endless search for the perfect expedition vehicle which I will never realistically buy has brought me to this Mercedes Truck. It is currently on Expedition Portal. It was not the end result which impressed me the most, however, but the step-by-step documentation of the built process.

Yes, we have seen a MAN fire truck being converted into a camper before, but I cannot get enough of these posts. The bonus here is that this one will be for sale midyear in the United States and Canada. Someone please buy it. Jump for specs and dozens of build pictures.

My wife and I usually just get a "Do you want to travel somewhere?"-feel, check prices online, and leave soon thereafter.
Feels like this is the complete opposite. Awesome!

This one small bit of the build is just downright cool. I mean, the rest is, too, but this in particular. It's not that complicated, it's not all crazy shiny and fancy, but I think it's really cool.

I'd love to have an expedition vehicle like this, too, but that requires a) the initial entry cost, b) the expenses for each individual trip, which while lowered because there's no need for a hotel would still be pretty significant, and c) a job that you can either do on the road or take off significant amounts of time to take a trip worthy of a vehicle like this- that or just be independently wealthy and not need to work.
I have none of those. So I don't have one of these. But it's definitely on my lottery winnings list.

I've always put something like this on my "to do" list. Frankly, as cool as it'd be to use a Mercedes, Mann, Tatra or Kamaz as the basis for my expo vehicle, since I'm going to likely stay in North America, I'm probably going to use a GM, Ford or Chrysler chassis like a Kodiak or F-550. That said, there are some good options from International, Freightliner, Fuso and Isuzu, should one pop up at the right price.
I really like a lot of the build features in this one, although I think the cassette toilet isn't the call I'd make.
This is more what I've been thinking about doing…
