No doubt by now, you have heard that not only is Oakland, California, one of the top five places in the world to visit, it is also the most exciting city in America. Why, you ask? It is because of the Seconds Saturdays car meets that Hanzel Auto Body Works regularly hosts.

This coming Saturday, many Bay Area Hooniverse commenters and fanatics of obscure automobiles will descend upon the Oakland shop and gawk at the dozens of cars, trucks, and motorbikes brought by said commenters and fanatics. With every show, the numbers grow. All of the vehicles pictured in this post were from last month’s meet.

More pictures can be seen here. A big thanks to vwminispeedster and Henry Hanzel for being such great hosts. Look for me in a concours condition 2004 Honda Civic DX. You are free to touch the exquisite gray cloth interior and admire the rare OEM air conditioning unit. Prepare to be floored.

  1. I can see part of my rear quarter window from here! I'm 90% in… I know myself well enough to not give any guarantees on weekend mornings.
The photo album link required me to log in, and then says I don't have permission…

    1. I think you have to be in Google Plus.
I saw a red lowered GTO yesterday. Very tastefully modded. Do you know whose it is?

      1. Yeah, I logged in and still no dice.
I know a number of GTO owners, but strangely, red and lowered isn't ringing a bell. The only red one I can think of is an '04, and it isn't particularly low.

  2. Good to see the Aussies represented. Would anyone have an accurate estimate as to how many Australian made RHD (so as to eliminate Capri, Diamante, G8) cars exist in North America?
On that note, is there any interest for some photos of a beaten-up, Californian-registered XB Falcon ute I took in Oregon last December?

    1. Man, tough to say. If I had to guess I'd say there are around 75-100. I drive an XE Falcon ute in South Carolina and I've talked to a few people with similar cars that I never knew about until recently

      1. Holy crap, that is awesome. I salute you, good sir. Would you mind sending me some pictures of it to milhousevanh at geemail? I may be able to make a Truck Thursday post out of it for the good people here at Hooniverse.
How did the ute end up in SC?

        1. No problem, I'll send some shots this evening. The ute came to port of LA as far as I can understand. I was living in Detroit at the time and found it on craigslist in LA, bought it 'accidentally' during lunch on a Wednesday, and me and a buddy flew to LA on SkyMiles with a couple sleeping bags and a duffel bag full o' tools and drove it home. Not gonna lie, wasn't an uneventful drive.

          1. I forgot to add that I brought it with me to SC when I moved…but I didn't drive it, I drove my Simca towing a fishing boat.

          2. I remember reading an article about that some place. Made me miss my old XE Fairmont wagon.

    2. That is my XB coupe and I used to own the Holden Ute. The 75 – 100 seems a good number. From the Aussie Ford folks I know, the number is around 70 in the US. I can account for three Holdens (still have a Monaro GTS Coupe) and I know of around 10 others. That leaves the the randoms no one knows about to fill it out.
Downside, I will miss this weekend! Other plans in place. Although I am trying to determine if I can sneak out and meet up with those folks on my own. hmmm…. (Still need to fix the nasty backfire that kicked in on my way there last month)
Next time I will have the Monaro ready to roll. Be there for sure.

      1. Brendan, what size are those Bathurst Globes? They look killer on the XB?

        1. Thanks! 15×10 Rear with 295/50-15 tires , 15×8 Front with 265/50-15 tires.
Amazed I could stuff those tire sizes. I recently restored the ride height to stock and no tire rub issues since.

          1. All over the map! Putting it off until July so I don't make a rash decision. Although I am regretting not buying a '95 968 Cab a couple weeks ago. Oh well….

  3. I am really annoyed…
I have just managed to book my first ever trip to California and I will be in the area on the third Saturday of July not the second Saturday
    Damn!
(have a great time this weekend chaps)

  4. I would DD that Rampage…rally lights and all.
I'd also be sorely tempted to put the motor from a Spirit R/T in there, just to keep people on their toes.

      1. I won't have the Lancia or a Ural this Saturday (nor a Healey or a Royal Enfield or a GB500, for that matter).
Just noticed that we have tickets for the Terracotta Warriors exhibit at Asian Art that morning.
So I'll be looking at some cool obsessions, just not automotive ones.

  5. Having been through Oakland in the late 80's, I'm surprised and will keep an open mind. I don't believe that NY Times article worth a damn..but these pictures give me hope. Without the photgraphic evidence, I'd say this was a joke. Oakland, CA…what's next….a Concours D'Elegance in Camden, NJ?
