It’s probably one of the more random sightings I’ve had happen lately, even if summertime usually brings out the interesting American muscle that is housed in local garages over winter. A ’68 Dodge Charger R/T just casually sitting on a street corner in the old, wooden town here, in drizzling rain.
The car’s been restored recently by the looks of it, and the wheels are modern, even. It’s probably very close to what the owner has dreamed of for a long time.
It’s actually quite refreshing that they went for a graphite colour, instead of emulating the Bullitt bad-guy look. The same thing that causes all ’58 Plymouth Belvederes or Furys to be resprayed in red and old Aston Martins to be finished in Silver Birch. But none of that here, just a couple of black accents where they belong.
No vinyl roof either for this one. The five-spoke wheels are an acquired taste, but otherwise it’s thumbs up for the Charger here.
Later on, a thunderstorm broke out on the Saturday night that I shot the car. Or maybe the Charger just cranked over and fired on all eight cylinders.

Can someone ship a set of Magnum 500’s or Torque Thrust D’s over there for that poor thing. It’s like a gorgeous woman walking around in a beekeeper’s helmet.

“The five-spoke wheels are an acquired taste”
So is tetanus.

I’ve made that mistake with my neighbors non-replica 1970 GTO Judge.

you shot your neighbor’s GTO? irresponsible firearms ownership is a mistake indeed!

No, but according to my dog, the car, thunder, and gunshots all sound the same!

Roughly 18% of 1968 Chargers originally rolled off the line in R/T trim. The easiest way to tell would be to see the VIN, but nothing in these pictures indicates that this one is truly an R/T.
There is a chance that when that Charger cranked over, it fired on all six cylinders, though I suspect that in the past four decades most of the slant 6 cars have been retrofitted with V8s or used as donors.-
It was rainy and it’s a 60’s Chrysler, so chances are when it cranked over it didn’t fire on enough cylinders to start and flooded.

Personally I hate seeing it in this grey. That often means that the owner wanted black, the body isn’t right so the painter said nope not going to paint it black because it will look like crap and you’ll blame me even though it is not my fault.

I agree, they look much better in orange (Dukes of Hazzard?), something close to red and probably lightblue metalic. How do they look in white?
-
Maybe he realized that the wheels he ordered were terrible and requested a paintjob in Resale Grey for a quick sell.

Great car, wrong wheels.
PS. Foundation of the house next to that car seems to be built without cement or other binder whatsoever.
