Better Late than Never – Hooniversal Calendar of Events

By Hooniverse Jul 5, 2011

Hooray for summer and gorgeous cars!

Now that the fireworks, burgers and beer have been cast aside for the endless torture of uncomfortable office chairs and glaring overhead lights, my fellow Hoons, I come to you with a plea. Hooniverse needs your calendar entries for our Hooniversal Event Calendar!
While we have the typical items -F1, World of Speed, Woodward Dream Cruise, Speedweek – we want to make sure we fill this puppy to the rim. Bring us your local shows, club get-togethers and cruise-ins. We’d love to see more overseas shows added for our Hoons across the pond and down under. Even your Friday night, driveway gathering of beers, bon fires and ball-joints would be a fun addition, if you feel so inclined.
Please feel free to either post your show in this thread or send an email to ti**@ho********.info with the city, state, link and anything else you want to say about the gathering. We’ll get the entries posted as soon as we receive them.
Thanks all – and have an excellent rest of the summer!

Also, I need to change the oil in my truck on Saturday. EVENT!

  3. I guess this is off topic, but man, is that a pretty pearl paint job on that pickup or what? Wow.

  4. Petit Le Mans, Road Atlanta, Sep. 28-Oct. 1 2011
Single day from $60, 4-day from $90, $10 discount in advance.
The grid walk is one of the best things in all of motorsport.

    1. The grid walk has become one giant mad rush of people. The last time I did it was a couple of years ago or more. Jammed shoulder to shoulder with thousands of other people, no room to hardly even see the cars. Now I just make sure I show up on Thursday or Friday to see all the cars and drivers up close in the paddock.

      1. I always start from the back of the grid, and work patiently and decisively forward towards the big prototypes.

  5. The Orphan Car Show in Ypsilanti MI has been moved to the fall. This year it's September 25th. Info on this and other shows in the Ypsi area at http://www.ypsiautoheritage.org/events.htm
The AMO/GLCAC AMC Meet at Greenmead Historical Park in Livonia MI is August 21. PDF of the entry form and flyer is here: http://www.greatlakesamc.org/Greenmead%202011%20F
Ypsilanti's Cruise Night is every Thursday until September 25 in Depot Town 5-9 PM unless it rains.

  6. Fargo/Moorhead's "Cruisin' Broadway" is on the 1st Thursday nights of June through September. Here's a small selection of June's turnout, it seems like anything is welcome.

  7. I hear they're moving the Nationwide race from IRP to the big track next year too. All those empty seats will look great!

  8. Run to Roslyn – July 9th in Roslyn WA.
Usually a lot of Muscle cars and Hot Rods. Happens to coincide nicely with the Rails to Ales brewfest going on about 10 miles away.
Red Horse Diner Car Show – July 16th, Ellensburg WA.
Couple things to bear in mind on this one, Red Horse Diner is built in an old Mobile Oil station and the owners are absolute car freaks. You won't see exotica here but there will be some seriously cool old cars that are actually *driven*, many on a daily basis.
Kruisin' Kittitas – August 13th in Kittitas WA.
I nominate this show for status as a Hoonitarian pilgrimage for anyone in the Northwest. No, it's not the biggest show out there. No, you're not going to see anything crazy rare. What you will see is a car show that has an award for "Best Project Car", a cruise down main street, and a fully sanctioned burnout competition (also down main street… the tire marks last for *months*). Most of the cars are driven regularly, a lot of the cars were restored by their owners, some were bought new in 1956 and have been in the family ever since, others are genuine rat rods in the sense that rats were evicted from the body shell when it was pulled out of the field. I have yet to find a car show that better embodies the Hooniverse spirit and mentality. Oh, and it's free.
